What is an Instagram MCP server?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants call external tools on their own. An Instagram MCP server is the bridge between your assistant and your Instagram data: once connected, the assistant can pull stats, compare accounts and build a report by itself, instead of waiting for you to paste numbers into the chat.

Meta does not publish an MCP server for Instagram. OwlStat provides one. It reads through the official Meta Graph API, so the figures match what Instagram reports natively, and it works with any client that speaks MCP, including Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code and Codex.

Open Connectors settings

In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, then Add Custom Connector. 2. 2

Fill in the fields below, choosing API Key as the authentication method, then paste the key from your OwlStat settings.

Troubleshooting

The server does not appear in my AI tool

Fully restart the app after editing the config. Most MCP clients do not hot reload servers, so a reload is not enough.

I get an authentication error (401)

Check the API key in your OwlStat settings and copy and paste it rather than typing it. A stray space at either end is the usual cause.

It says the account was not found

The Instagram account has to be tracked in your OwlStat workspace first. Add it in OwlStat, then ask again.

Why not just use a free Instagram MCP from GitHub?

Most Instagram MCP servers are scrapers. The difference shows up quickly.
