Documentation

check.tattoo app

Reference tools for people planning a tattoo: how small a design can go before detail merges, how common body areas compare for fading, pain, sun, friction and curvature, whether the gap between two lines will stay open as a tattoo ages, and a checklist to use before booking. It is a remote MCP server, so it works from AI assistants that support MCP connectors, such as ChatGPT and Claude.

What it does

  • assess_tattoo_idea: compares a design's size with the published minimum for its kind of design, and adds the placement and style notes.
  • check_line_spacing: applies the guides' rule of thumb (a line widens by about 0.1 mm per decade) to a line width and a gap, and says whether the gap stays open.
  • get_tattoo_size_chart: smallest and better sizes for eight kinds of design.
  • compare_tattoo_placements: ten common body areas side by side.
  • get_pre_booking_checklist: what to settle and ask before paying a deposit.

All five tools are read-only. They look up published tables and do a comparison; they call no other service and keep nothing.

What it does not do

It does not generate designs, read images or photos, book appointments or give medical advice. Its answers are general guidance from the tables published at check.tattoo, not a prediction for one design or one person's skin. An experienced tattoo artist has the final word.

Example prompts

  • I want the word "breathe" in fine-line script on my inner wrist, with letters about 4 mm tall. Will that hold up?
  • How small can a realistic portrait tattoo be?
  • Compare the forearm, ribs and hand for how fast a tattoo fades and how much they hurt.
  • What should I settle and ask before I pay a deposit for a tattoo?
  • Is a 6 cm bold anchor silhouette on my upper arm a good size?
  • My design has 0.3 mm lines with 0.4 mm between them. Will the gap still be open in twenty years?

Troubleshooting

If a tool answers that a value is not valid, it names the field and lists the accepted values; ask the assistant to retry with one of them. For anything else, see support.
