What it does

One connection to the whole model

Revit MCP runs inside Revit as an add-in, so the assistant works on the live model with the same API your plugins use.

Read the model

Categories, elements, types, levels, schedules, warnings and parameter values, queried in plain language.

Model and edit

Create and change elements, data and geometry — architecture, structure and site — in the open model.

Families and types

Load, edit and create families, duplicate types and work with their parameters across the project.

Views and sheets

Create and edit views, tag and annotate, read sheets, and export drawings and data.

Shared parameters

Add shared parameters, set values in bulk, and find and replace text across parameters.

Links and worksharing

Link and import models, copy between documents, and check worksets and ownership.

Scripts and recipes

When no tool fits, the assistant can run C# against the Revit API; scripts that work can be saved as recipes.

How it works

The server lives in the add-in

There is nothing separate to run. When Revit starts, the add-in starts the MCP server, and your AI assistant connects to it on your PC.

Every change is one Undo step in a transaction, large or destructive changes can be previewed first, and values are read and written in the project's own display units.

Your AI assistants are connected for you

Nothing to configure. Setup connects every AI assistant it finds on your PC, and one you install later is connected by itself (at the next Revit start, or within 10 minutes while Revit is open). Restart the assistant, or start a new chat, after it was connected.

Sign in with the same Google or GitHub account as on your PC, and keep Revit open. Requests pass through the team gateway, which never stores or logs them. Needs a paid claude.ai plan or ChatGPT with Developer mode.

What is shared

Your model stays on your PC

Revit MCP shares only what the AI learns about using the Revit MCP tools, so the MCP gets better for everyone. Names and numbers are removed on the PC before anything is sent, and removed again on arrival.

If Revit MCP cannot do something you ask, your AI assistant tells you, and offers to report it to the developer. Missing capabilities are added in new versions, which install themselves.

    Request anything in Revit. When no tool covers it, the assistant says so plainly instead of guessing.

    It shows you what it would send: what is missing, a full description and your request, without project or client names. Nothing is sent unless you agree.

What is Revit MCP?

Revit MCP is an AI plugin for Autodesk Revit: an add-in with a built-in Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot and Cursor can read and change the Revit model open on your PC.

Which Revit versions does it support?

Revit 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027 on Windows 10 or 11. One installer sets it up for every one of them on your PC, and it updates itself. Revit 2024 alone also needs the.NET 8 Desktop Runtime; setup tells you.

Is Revit MCP free?

Yes. Revit MCP is free to download and use. You sign in once with a Google or GitHub account.

Do I need administrator rights?

No. Setup installs Revit MCP for your Windows user only, so no administrator rights are needed, and updates install themselves the same way.

How is Revit MCP different from Autodesk's Revit MCP server?

Autodesk's Revit MCP Server is an official technical preview for Revit 2027, installed from Autodesk Account, with read, write and experimental servers. Revit MCP is an independent add-in for Revit 2024 to 2027 that reads and edits the model, connects your AI assistants for you, updates itself and shares fixes across your team. Which AI assistants work with Revit?

On your PC: Claude Code, Claude app, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Cline and other MCP clients, connected automatically by setup. ChatGPT and claude.ai in the browser can connect through the optional Cloud AI access.

What can the AI do in Revit?

Query elements, parameters, schedules and warnings; create and edit elements, views, sheets and annotations; load and edit families; set shared parameters in bulk; run QA checks and exports; and, when no tool fits, run C# against the Revit API. Every change is one Undo step.

Does my Revit model leave my PC?

No. Model, project, client, file and element names and values stay on your PC. Only AI-learning information is shared — which tool failed and what fixed it, with names and numbers removed — so your team's assistants avoid the same mistake. Cloud AI access, off unless you switch it on, passes ChatGPT's or claude.ai's requests to your PC without storing them.
