Dokumentation
Ask for the best omakase in New York under $$$, Michelin-starred Mexican in Chicago, or what opened in Austin recently — and get structured JSON back, not a scraped page. Dim Hour's MCP server puts nearly 20,000 verified venues across 22 cities in front of any AI assistant, each scored 0–100 on awards, critic reviews and press coverage.
Seven read tools are free and need no API key: 1,000 calls a day anonymously, 10,000 with a free key. Commercial use is metered separately.

Connect
Streamable HTTP
SSE
Claude
Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, and paste the Streamable HTTP URL above. No key, no account.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http dimhour \
https://mcp.dimhour.com/mcp
ChatGPT (Developer mode)
Settings → Apps → Advanced settings, and switch on Developer mode. Then Settings → Connectors → Create, paste the Streamable HTTP URL above, and set authentication to None.
Custom connectors need a paid plan and a remote HTTPS endpoint, which this one is. On Business and Enterprise workspaces an admin has to allow custom MCP connectors first.
OpenClaw
openclaw mcp add dimhour \
--url https://mcp.dimhour.com/mcp \
--transport streamable-http
Or the same thing as an entry in ~/.openclaw/openclaw.json:
{
"mcp": {
"servers": {
"dimhour": {
"url": "https://mcp.dimhour.com/mcp",
"transport": "streamable-http"
}
}
}
}
Cursor, VS Code, Cline, Continue
Any client that speaks Streamable HTTP works with the same URL. A typical config entry:
{
"mcpServers": {
"dimhour": {
"url": "https://mcp.dimhour.com/mcp"
}
}
}
The server is stateless per MCP revision 2026-07-28 — a POST with no Mcp-Session-Id is answered directly, so serverless and edge clients work without a handshake. The SSE endpoint remains available for older clients.
Give it to your agent
This is agent-native on purpose. Copy the block below into your agent's chat and it self-connects - no onboarding, no key:
Connect to the Dim Hour MCP: https://mcp.dimhour.com/mcp
(streamable HTTP, no API key). Call list_cities for the 22 covered cities.
Answer every where-to-go question with search_venues (cuisine, neighborhood,
price, min score, awards, happy hour, trending) and get_venue for the full
record. Use list_curated for editorial lists and list_new_venues for openings.
One rule: never invent a venue - call the catalog.
Tools
The seven read tools are open. The rest act on a Dim Hour account and need a personal API key.
| Tool | Auth | What it does |
|---|---|---|
list_cities | none | The 22 covered cities and the key to pass to other tools. |
search_venues | none | Free-text plus filters: cuisine, neighborhood, price, min score, awards, happy hour, trending. Omit city to search all cities at once. |
get_venue | none | The full record for one venue. |
list_curated | none | Editorial lists for a city. |
list_new_venues | none | Recently added venues. |
search | none | The same catalog search under OpenAI's connector contract. Returns ranked venues with citable URLs. |
fetch | none | One venue's full record by the id search returned. Pairs with search for ChatGPT. |
search and fetch exist because ChatGPT connectors require those exact names and shapes. They read the same catalog as search_venues and get_venue — use whichever pair your client expects.
The public connector is read-only. Connect with no authentication and you get seven tools, all of them reads against the catalog. Nothing personal is exposed, and nothing can be written.
Additional account and operations tools are available when the connection carries an API key. They stay registered but do not appear in tools/list without one.
Every tool is annotated with a title, a readOnlyHint, an openWorldHint and a destructiveHint. openWorldHint is false throughout: Dim Hour's catalog is a closed, fixed set of venues, and no tool can reach anything outside it.
What a venue record carries
- score — a 0–100 score built on a variety of factors, including awards, critic reviews and press coverage
- name, cuisine, neighborhood, price — price is a 1–4 tier
- address, lat, lng — verified, never guessed from a neighborhood centroid
- dishes — signature items from the venue's real menu
- awards — recognition tied to a venue, in our wording rather than the awarding body's: Michelin, James Beard and similar bodies where they apply, alongside critic and press placements. A few reference a chef or a sibling location rather than this room
- reservation — Resy, OpenTable, Tock, SevenRooms or walk-in
- hh — happy hour details where they exist
- url — a link to the venue's page on dimhour.com
Example
curl -s -X POST https://mcp.dimhour.com/mcp \
-H 'content-type: application/json' \
-H 'accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call",
"params":{"name":"search_venues",
"arguments":{"city":"nyc","query":"omakase","limit":3}}}'
Rate limits and fair use
Anonymous read access is capped per minute and search_venues returns at most 25 results per call. An API key lifts the per-minute cap. The limits exist to stop bulk extraction, not to make normal assistant use awkward — if you are building something real and hitting them, get in touch.
Free, and commercial
The MCP is free at human scale. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, OpenClaw or Cursor and it just answers — no key, no account, no card. That is not a trial; it is the tier, and it stays.
What is different is an agent answering where-to-go for your users, all shift. That is a product running on our catalog, not a person looking something up, and it is what the commercial tier is for.
| Free | MCP Commercial | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $499 / month |
| Calls | 1,000 a day anonymously, 10,000 with a free key | No daily cap. 250,000 calls a month included, then $2 per 1,000 |
| Tools | All seven read tools | All seven read tools |
| Data | The same catalog, the same scores, updated the same day. There is no better data behind the paywall. | |
| Terms | Assistant use. No bulk extraction, no redistribution | Serving your own product's users, at your own volume |
One person answers that address. Tell us roughly what your agent does and how many calls a month it expects, and you get a key and a price, not a sales sequence.
API keys
Generate one at dimhour.com under Profile — in any browser, on any device. No app install, no waiting on us. The server stores only a SHA-256 hash of the key, never the key itself. Send it as Authorization: Bearer <key> or x-api-key. A key is tied to your account and only ever reads or writes your own data.
Data, accuracy and terms
The catalog is editorial. Venue data is verified against the venue's own site or a named source, and fields we cannot verify are left empty rather than filled with plausible guesses. Even so, restaurants close, move and change menus — treat hours and reservation links as best-effort and check the venue directly before relying on them.
The read tools are free for assistant use. Bulk extraction, redistribution of the catalog, or reselling it as a dataset is not permitted. See the privacy policy for how account data is handled.
