MCP Setup Guide
Step-by-step setup guide for connecting BatchEdits to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, OpenClaw, and other MCP-compatible AI clients in under a minute.
Prerequisites
- An active BatchEdits account — see plans
- Video credits — processing a video uses one credit from your plan or free trial
- An API key (only for clients without OAuth sign-in, such as Cursor or terminal tools) — generate one in your Settings dashboard
Note on Authentication: The server URL is https://batchedits.com/api/mcp. Clients that support MCP OAuth (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code) only need this URL — you sign in with your BatchEdits account. Other clients send an API key in the x-api-key header or as Authorization: Bearer. Every request only ever sees your own workspace.
Claude (web, desktop & mobile)
- Open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it BatchEdits and enter the URL
https://batchedits.com/api/mcp. - Click Connect and sign in with your BatchEdits account.
The connector syncs across Claude on the web, desktop and mobile. Enable it in a chat from the tools menu.
ChatGPT
- Open Settings → Apps & Connectors and create a new app/connector (developer mode may need to be enabled).
- Enter the MCP server URL
https://batchedits.com/api/mcpand choose OAuth authentication. - Sign in with your BatchEdits account when prompted.
In ChatGPT you can attach a video to the chat and ask to upload it — the file is sent to your BatchEdits workspace directly.
Claude Code
Add the server, then run /mcp inside Claude Code to sign in:
claude mcp add --transport http batchedits https://batchedits.com/api/mcp
# or, with an API key instead of OAuth sign-in:
claude mcp add --transport http batchedits https://batchedits.com/api/mcp \
--header "x-api-key: your_api_key_here"
Cursor or Windsurf
Add this to your MCP config (Cursor: ~/.cursor/mcp.json):
{
"mcpServers": {
"batchedits": {
"url": "https://batchedits.com/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"x-api-key": "your_api_key_here"
}
}
}
}
Replace your_api_key_here with the API key generated in settings to access your workspace.
Claude Desktop (local config, API key)
If you prefer an API key over the connector above, add this to your claude_desktop_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"batchedits": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"mcp-remote",
"https://batchedits.com/api/mcp",
"--header",
"x-api-key: your_api_key_here"
]
}
}
}
Requires Node.js installed. Replace your_api_key_here with your custom API key to link Claude to your workspace.
Custom GPTs & OpenClaw
For clients that support standard OAuth 2.0 flows (like ChatGPT Custom Actions), use our OAuth endpoints:
- Authorization URL:
https://batchedits.com/api/oauth/authorize - Token URL:
https://batchedits.com/api/oauth/token
For terminal clients (like OpenClaw), pass the token securely as an environment variable or config:
openclaw config set env.BATCHEDITS_API_KEY your_api_key_here
openclaw config set mcp.servers.batchedits '{"type": "sse", "url": "https://batchedits.com/api/mcp"}'
Tool Reference
Once connected, your AI discovers these tools automatically. Every tool only works inside your own BatchEdits workspace, and none of them delete anything.
upload_videos
Upload Videos
Opens the BatchEdits uploader so you can add one or many videos. In ChatGPT, a video attached to the chat is uploaded directly and its ID is returned.
open_editor
Open Video Editor
Opens the BatchEdits editor on existing videos (or a public video link) to pick or tweak a style, crop or clip, and watch progress.
list_videos
List Videos
Lists your videos newest first with their status: uploading, uploaded, queued, processing, completed or failed, plus the folder each one is in and, for AI clips, which video it came from. Can filter by status.
process_video
Process Video
Queues an uploaded video for processing with one of your styles. Uses one video credit; the result reports the queued status — check list_videos to see when it is completed.
get_styles
Get Editing Styles
Lists your saved editing styles and the actions in each.
list_actions
List Editing Actions
Lists the editing actions a style can combine and the settings each accepts: remove_silence, add_captions, crop_video (9:16, 1:1, 4:5, 16:9, 4:3), ai_clips (cut long videos into short clips) and punch_zoom (zoom on key moments).
create_style
Create Editing Style
Creates a reusable style from editing actions, e.g. "crop to 9:16, cut into clips and add captions". Your AI then processes videos with it.
edit_style
Edit Editing Style
Renames a style or updates its description. To add cropping, AI clips or zoom to a style, your AI creates a new style from it, so the original stays unchanged.
download_video
Download Video
Returns a temporary download link for a completed video. For unfinished videos it reports the current status instead.
download_videos
Download Videos
Returns temporary download links for up to 50 completed videos and lists any that are not ready yet.
Interactive Views
In clients that support MCP Apps, upload_videos, open_editor, list_videos and process_video show a live view right in the chat. Uploads and finished edits are shared back with your AI automatically, so you never have to copy video IDs.
Where the client allows it (e.g. ChatGPT), the full BatchEdits editor loads inline. In Claude, the view shows an uploader with live status and an Open full editor button that opens the editor in a new tab.
Example Prompts
- “Upload a video to BatchEdits.”
- “What editing styles do I have?”
- “Create a style that removes silence and adds captions.”
- “Crop my last 5 uploads to 9:16 and add captions.”
- “Cut this podcast into 8 clips of 30 to 60 seconds.”
- “Make a copy of my Podcast Clean style that also zooms on key moments.”
- “Process my latest upload with my Podcast Clean style.”
- “Is my video ready yet?”
- “Download my latest completed video.”
