What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes. In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours, and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store. In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects. You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the API section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: JavaScript/TypeScript (npm install apify-client) and Python (pip install apify-client).

Apple App Store Scraper: Search, Lookup, Top Charts

Apple App Store scraper with three modes: search apps by keyword, look up apps by numeric ID or bundle ID, and read the top free / top paid charts by country and genre. One normalized row per app: id, bundleId, name, developer, price, rating, ratingCount, genres, releaseDate, currentVersionReleaseDate, url. It uses Apple's public iTunes Search/Lookup API and the Apple marketing RSS charts. No login, no browser, no proxies. Pay $0.0015 per app ($1.50 per 1,000), no start fee.

Input

  • mode: search, lookup or topCharts (default topCharts).
  • country: two-letter storefront code (default us).
  • term: keyword (search).
  • ids / bundleIds: App Store IDs, URLs or bundle IDs (lookup; batched 200 per request).
  • chart: top-free or top-paid; genre: optional genre ID, e.g. 6007 Productivity (topCharts).
  • limit: max apps, 1-200 (default 25).

An empty input {} runs as-is: the US top free chart, 25 apps.

Example input

{ "mode": "search", "term": "budget planner", "country": "us", "limit": 20 }

Example output

Shape is real, values abbreviated.

{

  "developer": "WhatsApp Inc.", "price": 0, "currency": "USD", "rating": 4.68, "ratingCount": 1880000,

  "url": "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/whatsapp-messenger/id310633997",
  "country": "us", "rank": null, "source": "lookup"
}

Pricing (pay per event)

Event app-scraped: one app row added to the dataset, $0.0015. Searches with no results and unknown IDs cost nothing.

Honest limits

  • Search returns at most 200 apps per query; top charts at most 200 entries, as Apple exposes.
  • Requests are throttled to about 20 per minute to respect Apple's guidance and retried with backoff on 403/429, so large lookups take a little while.
  • Metadata only. For reviews use the companion actor below. Data is public Apple catalogue data; Apple may change or limit these endpoints.
  • Not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple Inc.

AI disclosure

This actor was written with the assistance of an AI model (Claude, by Anthropic) and is maintained by PennyData. It was tested against Apple's live public endpoints before publishing.
