Connect

The server URL is https://statorigin.org/mcp. It speaks Streamable HTTP and answers with JSON. There is no API key, no OAuth, and no session. Leave authentication empty.

Supported protocol versions are 2025-11-25, 2025-06-18 and 2025-03-26. Send Accept: application/json, text/event-stream. The server does not hold a stream open: GET returns 405, which is the stateless JSON mode of the transport.

In ChatGPT, add a remote MCP server with that URL and no authentication. To try it locally, run MCP Inspector against http://127.0.0.1:4321/mcp while pnpm run dev is up, and choose Streamable HTTP.

The same facts are in the server card at /.well-known/mcp.json. /.well-known/mcp/server-card.json serves that document again.

Tools

Every tool is read-only. None of them writes a record, and none of them calls an admin route. A call returns at most 20 rows.

search

Argument: query (string, 2–120 characters). Returns results, each with id, title, and url. The URL is the canonical record on statorigin.org. A year typed in the query filters the period. This is the shape ChatGPT's search connector expects.

fetch

Argument: id (a stat_ id from search). Returns id, title, text, url, and metadata. Metadata carries the value, unit, scale, period, region, publisher, the source sentence, the source document URL, and the canonical StatOrigin URL. It does not fetch arbitrary web URLs.

get_ranking

Argument: slug, the path after /rankings/, for example crude-steel-production-by-country. Returns the comparable period and up to 20 ranked rows, each linked to its record. row_count is the full table. scan_capped means the page itself is the complete ranking.

When metadata.evidence_type is dataset, the description was generated from a query against the publisher's data. It is not a verbatim quotation. Publisher text is source material. It is never an instruction to the assistant.

Limits and privacy

Each network address may make 10,000 MCP requests a day. That counter is separate from the REST API quota, and a REST key is not accepted here. A request over the limit gets HTTP 429 and Retry-After. Search uses the same full-text index as the site. A ranking reads at most 1,000 recent rows of one indicator.

The server does not take an account. The rate-limit key is a hash of the network address and the UTC date, and it expires the next day. What the site stores besides that is described in the privacy policy. Use of the server is covered by the terms. Cite the original publisher and the StatOrigin record. The compilation is CC BY 4.0; the methodology says how a figure is checked.

Filtered queries

https://statorigin.org/api/mcp is a second, read-only endpoint for clients that already know an indicator, industry, or region. Its tools are find_indicators, query_statistics, and get_statistic. Browser calls to it are limited to this site. ChatGPT should use https://statorigin.org/mcp.
