Add Samplecut to Claude

Works on claude.ai and the Claude desktop app. Adding it from the phone app is still in beta.

• Click Add to Claude. Claude opens its Add custom connector dialog with Samplecut’s name and address already filled in.

• Check the address reads https://api.samplecut.app/mcp, then confirm. Nothing is added until you do.

• In a new chat, paste a link and ask for the part you want.

Add Samplecut to ChatGPT

On a computer only. Use ChatGPT on the web — the ChatGPT phone apps can’t run it yet, and the free plan doesn’t include it.

• Open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.

• Go to ChatGPT Plugins, select +, and create an app called Samplecut.

• Paste the connector URL from the top of this page and choose No Authentication.

• In a chat, open the Developer menu and turn Samplecut on.

OpenAI’s own docs disagree on which paid plans can let ChatGPT use it — see the plan notes. If ChatGPT connects but won’t cut, Claude is the reliable path.

Tools and inputs

cut_audio — extract and cut in one call.

• url — a YouTube, TikTok or Instagram link (required).

• start_sec, end_sec — the range in seconds. Omit both for the full track.

• duration_sec — clip length from start_sec (default 0) when end_sec is omitted.

• format — mp3 (default) or wav.

Returns download_url, editor_url (the same source and range, open in the web editor) and expires_at — about an hour out.

get_transcript — captions, when the platform has them (in practice, YouTube).

• url — the link (required).

• lang — BCP-47 caption language, default en.

Returns timestamped segments (start_sec/end_sec/text) plus flat text, or available: false. No job id — the agent picks times from the transcript and calls cut_audio with the same link.

What it can do

• Grab the audio — the whole track from a YouTube, TikTok or Instagram link, as MP3 or WAV.

• Cut a part — give the times (“1:15 to 1:45”) and get just that clip.

• Find a moment by what’s said — on YouTube, the assistant can read the captions, find the line, and cut around it.

• Fine-tune on the website — every answer includes an Open in Samplecut link with the same video and range ready on the waveform editor.

Download links work for about an hour.

Questions, limits and troubleshooting

Is it free? Do I need a Samplecut account?

It’s free, and there is nothing to sign in to — choose No sign-in in Claude or No Authentication in ChatGPT. A Samplecut account is only for publishing cuts to the shared library on the website.

What are the limits?

• YouTube, TikTok and Instagram links only.

• Videos up to 60 minutes long.

• Download links work for about an hour, then expire — ask again for a fresh one.

• Private, members-only and age-restricted videos fail, and region-locked ones can too.

• Cuts are rate-limited per network address. Claude and ChatGPT reach Samplecut from shared addresses, so at busy times a cut can be refused for a few minutes even if it’s your first.

Is it safe? What does Samplecut see?

https://api.samplecut.app/mcp is the only official address — Samplecut is listed in the official MCP Registry as app.samplecut/samplecut, and anything that asks you to sign in, pay, or install a package to “use Samplecut” is not us.

Samplecut sees the links you send and the ranges you ask for — nothing else from your chat, and nothing tied to your chat account. Working files are deleted after about an hour; logs keep a one-way hash of your network address, never the address itself. Each video that gets cut has a public page on samplecut.app — about the video, not about you. Details are in the privacy policy.

The Samplecut tools don’t show up — what now?

• Start a new chat after adding it, and check it is turned on for that chat — in ChatGPT under the Developer menu, in Claude under the chat’s tools / connectors menu.

• Check the address is exactly https://api.samplecut.app/mcp.

• In ChatGPT, Developer mode has to stay on, and your plan has to allow it (plan notes).

• On Claude’s free plan the one custom-connector slot may already be taken.

Why did a cut fail?

Usually the video: private, members-only, age-restricted or region-locked videos can’t be fetched, and anything over 60 minutes is refused. An old download link has simply expired — ask for the cut again. If the answer mentions a limit, it’s the shared rate limit — wait a few minutes, or use the website below. If a video keeps failing, another upload of the same content often works.
