The US Government Data API for agents. A hosted MCP server that serves official US government data as clean JSON on one key: SEC EDGAR filings (insider trades, 8-Ks, 13F holdings, 13D/G stakes, fundamentals, ratios), SAM.gov contract opportunities, USAspending awards, Grants.gov grants, and congressional stock trades — over the Edgrapi API. Plus drop-in Python skills for the SEC financials workflow.

Official data is free, but each source ships its own headache — XBRL tag drift, agency-specific query languages, pipe-delimited statuses, dollar ranges. Edgrapi normalizes all of it into one clean JSON schema, so your agent gets numbers it can trust in one call.

Free to start — grab a key (100 free credits every month, no card required) and you're pulling data from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or your own agent loop in under two minutes.

The hosted MCP server exposes the full toolset, including the government-data endpoints (get_opportunities, get_awards, get_grants, get_congress). The packaged Python skills/ below cover the SEC company-financials workflow; use the MCP server for everything else.

Use it as an MCP server

The skills above are one way in. The other is the hosted MCP server — point any MCP client at a single URL, with nothing to install and no local process:

Works in Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and Cline. Transport is streamable-http. Auth is Authorization: Bearer edgr_..., or OAuth 2.1 — the server is its own provider. Discovery (initialize, tools/list) is open, so you can inspect the tool list without a key; tools/call needs one.

The MCP surface is wider than the skills in this repo: alongside fundamentals and filings it covers Form 4 insider trades with cluster-buy detection, typed 8-K material events, 13F fund holdings diffed quarter-over-quarter, 13D/13G >5% activist stakes, XBRL-to-JSON, shares outstanding, entity resolution, and full-text search across every filing since 2001. For the live list, call tools/list or read the server card — both are generated from the server itself, so neither goes stale.

Authentication

Set the EDGRAPI_KEY environment variable to your Edgrapi key (format edgr_...). It's sent as the X-API-Key header — the base URL is hardcoded, so the key never reaches any other host.

Pricing

Credits are weighted by endpoint, not one per request: company, filings, events, entity resolution and full-text search cost 1; fundamentals, ratios and XBRL cost 3; sections, insider, holdings and activist cost 5. Credits never expire. All data is from public SEC EDGAR.
