What is GEO?

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimizing your website so that AI-powered search engines and LLM crawlers can easily find, understand, and cite your content. Think of it as SEO for the age of ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.

What are AI agents and LLM crawlers?

AI agents are automated systems that browse and interact with the web on behalf of users. LLM crawlers (like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and Google-Extended) are bots that fetch web content to train or augment large language models. If your site blocks or confuses these crawlers, you're invisible to AI-powered search.

How is the GEO score calculated?

Each of the 16 categories gets a score from 0-100 based on individual checks. The 16 categories cover technical readiness (structured data, semantic HTML, accessibility, internal linking, meta tags, machine readability, entity authority, citability, performance, agent interactivity) plus content-based checks (positioning, freshness, information density, factual verifiability, comprehensiveness, multimodal content). These are combined using weighted averages to produce an overall GEO score and letter grade (A through F).

Does it work with single-page apps (SPAs)?

Yes! Glippy detects JS frameworks (React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, etc.) and checks for server-side rendering (SSR). If your SPA relies solely on client-side rendering, Glippy will flag it - because most AI crawlers can't execute JavaScript.

What data does Glippy collect?

Glippy runs entirely in your browser. No page content is ever sent to our servers. The only network calls are for license verification (Pro users). Your analysis data stays on your machine.

What is WebMCP and why does Glippy check for it?

WebMCP (Web Model Context Protocol) is a new W3C standard jointly developed by Google and Microsoft that lets websites expose structured tools and capabilities directly to AI agents in the browser. Instead of agents guessing how to interact with your site via screenshots or DOM scraping, WebMCP provides a structured "tool contract" - a menu of available actions with defined inputs and outputs.

Glippy checks for WebMCP declarative attributes (toolname, tooldescription, toolparamdescription) on forms, imperative API usage (navigator.modelContext.registerTool()), SDK/polyfill detection, form agent-readiness, and provides page-type-specific tool recommendations.

Do I need to implement WebMCP right now?

WebMCP is currently in early preview (Chrome 146 Canary) with production readiness expected mid-late 2026. Glippy's Agent Interactivity category has a low weight (0.2x) so it won't significantly impact your overall score today. However, early adopters gain a competitive advantage, and Glippy's Form Agent-Readiness check helps you see how close your existing forms already are to being WebMCP-compatible - often just a few HTML attributes away.

What is the difference between WebMCP and Anthropic's MCP?

They are complementary, not competing. Anthropic's MCP is a backend server-to-server protocol that connects AI tools to APIs and databases. Google's WebMCP is a frontend browser protocol that connects AI agents to website UIs through structured tool definitions. A complete agent stack might use both: MCP for backend integrations and WebMCP for browser-based interactions.
