What "installing" Plainpaper actually means

You don't download anything. In Claude, a tool like Plainpaper is a connector, a secure link between your chat and the service. From then on, Claude can open a Plainpaper board and write campaign cards onto it whenever you ask, without you leaving the conversation.

Plainpaper lives in Claude's connector directory, alongside Canva, Notion, and the rest. Installing means finding it in that list, or jumping straight to its listing, and clicking Connect. The sign-in and the approval that follow are the standard flow; there is nothing to paste and nothing to configure.

The whole thing takes about two minutes, and most of that is the one-time sign-in. Below is every step, in order.

Skip the searching. Plainpaper's listing lives at claude.ai/directory/connectors/plainpaper. Open it, click Connect, and you're most of the way done.

Before you start. You'll need a Claude account (connectors work on every plan, the free one included) and a Plainpaper account, free to create when you connect. On Team and Enterprise, an admin may need to switch the Plainpaper connector on for your workspace first.

Open Plainpaper's listing in the directory

The fastest route is the direct link: claude.ai/directory/connectors/plainpaper. Prefer to browse? In Claude, open the connector directory (on claude.ai and in Claude Desktop it's under Settings → Connectors → Browse connectors) and search for Plainpaper.

On Team or Enterprise? An admin may need to enable the Plainpaper connector for your workspace before the listing lets you connect. Everyone else, free plan included, can connect straight away.

Click Connect and approve access

On the listing, hit Connect. Claude sends you to Plainpaper's authorization page, where you sign in (or create an account, free to start), tick the workspaces Claude may reach, and approve. This uses OAuth, so Claude never sees your password. It only receives permission to work with your boards. Approve, and you're sent straight back to Claude.

You stay in control of what ships. The connector lets Claude draft on the board, not send on your behalf. Approval of emails and ad creative always happens on the board, and the real sending runs through each tool's own connector.

Confirm it shows "Connected"

Back in Claude, Plainpaper now sits in your connector list with a Connected label. That's the install done: nothing downloaded, nothing pasted. Plainpaper is wired to your Claude account.

Switch Plainpaper on in a chat

Connecting a tool makes it available; each chat decides which connectors are active. Open a new conversation, click the search-and-tools menu near the message box, and make sure Plainpaper is toggled on. Now Claude can use it here.

Prefer to add it by URL?

The directory listing is a shortcut, not a different product. If you'd rather wire it up yourself, or the directory isn't available in your workspace, add Plainpaper as a custom connector instead: open Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector, and paste this address:

Keep the trailing slash; without it some clients silently drop the connection. From there the flow is identical: click Connect, sign in, approve. One thing to know: on the free Claude plan you can hold one custom connector at a time, a limit the directory route doesn't have.

If something's not working

  • The listing won't let you connect. On Team and Enterprise, an admin may need to enable the Plainpaper connector, or connectors in general, for the workspace before members can use it.
  • You can't find Plainpaper in the directory. Skip the search box and open the listing directly: claude.ai/directory/connectors/plainpaper. If the listing still won't load for you, add it by URL with Add custom connector instead.
  • Claude rejects the URL (custom-connector route). It needs the full address including the trailing slash: https://mcp.plainpaper.io/mcp/. On Team and Enterprise, an admin may also need to allow custom connectors for the workspace; on the free plan you can hold one custom connector at a time.
  • Claude says it can't reach Plainpaper. Open the search-and-tools menu in your chat and confirm Plainpaper is toggled on for that conversation. Connecting it in Settings isn't the same as enabling it in a chat.
  • The authorize window closed without connecting. Pop-up blockers can interrupt the OAuth step. Allow pop-ups for Claude, then click Connect again.
  • You want to start over. In Settings → Connectors, choose Disconnect on Plainpaper, then reconnect from the directory listing.

What to do once it's connected

With the connector live, the board becomes Claude's workspace. A few first things worth asking for:

  • Start from a playbook. Ask Claude to open a board from the Ecommerce or Product Launch playbook so the phases and starter cards are already in place.
  • Draft an audience and a brief. Give it the goal and the offer in plain language; it lays each one out as a typed card you can correct.
  • Approve before anything ships. Emails and ad creative land on the board for your sign-off. Claude only pushes them out through each destination's own connector after you approve.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find Plainpaper in Claude?

In the connector directory. Open the listing at claude.ai/directory/connectors/plainpaper directly, or browse the directory from Settings → Connectors and search for Plainpaper. Click Connect on the listing and approve access. If the directory isn't available to you, add it as a custom connector with https://mcp.plainpaper.io/mcp/ instead.

Do I need a paid Claude plan to use connectors?

No. Connectors work on every Claude plan, including the free one. On Team and Enterprise, an admin may need to allow the connector for the workspace before you can use it. If you take the custom-connector route instead of the directory, free accounts are limited to one custom connector at a time.

Is it safe to connect Plainpaper to Claude?

Yes. The connection uses OAuth, so you sign in on Plainpaper's own page and Claude never receives your password. You grant Plainpaper permission to read and write your boards, and you can revoke that access at any time from the Connectors screen.

Why don't I see Plainpaper in my chat after connecting?

Connecting a tool in Settings makes it available, but each chat decides which connectors are on. Open the search-and-tools menu near the message box and switch Plainpaper on for that conversation. If it's still missing, refresh or start a new chat.

Does Plainpaper send my emails or post my ads?

No. Plainpaper is the canvas where Claude drafts and you approve. It holds the plan and the assets, not your sending credentials. Claude pushes approved work out through each destination's own connector (Mailchimp, Meta, your ESP), never from Plainpaper.

How do I remove or disconnect Plainpaper?

Open Settings → Connectors, find Plainpaper, and choose Disconnect. That revokes Claude's access immediately. You can reconnect whenever you want from its directory listing.

Can I use Plainpaper in ChatGPT too?

Yes, and the same account and boards carry across. ChatGPT keeps custom MCP servers behind developer mode, so it is a slightly longer setup: install Plainpaper in ChatGPT. Cursor, Claude Code, and anything else that speaks MCP are covered in connect your agent.
