Questions writers ask

Can KudoWrite write explicit or NSFW fiction?

Yes, within the law. KudoWrite adds no content filter of its own: romance, horror, dark and explicit themes are your call. The AI model’s own behaviour still applies, and the built-in model is chosen partly because it rarely refuses. Books you publish to Community Books carry a rating, and explicit ones sit behind an 18+ notice.

Is KudoWrite free?

You get 1 free credit when you confirm your email, about 10 simple rewrites, and no card is needed to sign up. After that it’s one-off credit packs: $3.50 for 100 credits, $7.50 for 500, $12.50 for 1,000. No subscription. You can also bring your own OpenRouter or Mistral key and pay the provider directly; KudoWrite adds no markup.

How is it different from writing a novel in ChatGPT?

A chat isn’t built to hold a book: as it grows, early chapters fall out of what the model can see, and OpenAI’s rules limit explicit scenes. KudoWrite is built around the book. You write it beat by beat, and every beat you commit updates a story bible and a summary of the whole book, so chapter 30 is written with chapter 1 in context.

Does it remember my characters and plot?

Yes. Every committed beat updates the story bible (characters, places, items, events) and a running summary of the whole book. Before it writes a beat, KudoWrite picks the bible entries that passage needs and plans from the story so far. You can read and edit the bible and the summary in the sidebar.

Can I bring a book over from Sudowrite, NovelAI or Novelcrafter?

Yes. My Books → Import reads.docx,.odt,.epub,.html,.md,.txt and.rtf files, a Scrivener or Novelcrafter zip and NovelAI.story files. Story bibles import from Sudowrite CSVs, a Novelcrafter codex, a NovelAI lorebook and AI Dungeon story cards. Chapters and scene breaks are detected for free.

Is my writing private?

Your books save automatically to your account, and unpublished books are private: only chapters you publish to Community Books are public. Requests to the built-in AI go to zero-data-retention hosts that don’t train on prompts.

Do I need to install anything or set up an API key?

No. KudoWrite runs in any modern browser, with no desktop or mobile app to install, and the built-in AI needs no key.
