Kaption WhatsApp MCP server

Connect WhatsApp to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client. The AI assistant can search chats, summarize conversations, look up contacts, manage reminders and schedule messages, with OAuth sign-in and access the user can revoke.

Cloud connection (remote MCP)

• Endpoint (Streamable HTTP): https://mcp.kaptionai.com/mcp (SSE: https://mcp.kaptionai.com/sse)
• Auth: OAuth 2.1 with PKCE (S256) and dynamic client registration. Scope: kaption:access. Protected resource metadata: https://mcp.kaptionai.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource
• Sign-in: phone number plus a 6-digit code sent on WhatsApp. Connection lifetime: while in use (ends after 90 days without use), 1 year, or until disconnected. Access tokens last one hour.

Setup:

1. Open WhatsApp Web in Chrome or Edge with the Kaption extension, or the Kaption desktop app, signed in to Kaption.
2. Extension: AI Assistants (MCP) › Cloud Bridge › Enable. Desktop app: Settings › Cloud MCP.
3. Add the endpoint to the AI app as a remote MCP server / custom connector.
4. Sign in.

Local connection (stdio)

Requires Node.js 18+. Turn on the MCP bridge in the extension (or Local MCP in the desktop app) and keep WhatsApp Web open.

Tools (cloud)

• Read-only: query, download_media, list_contacts, get_contact, get_contact_groups, list_groups, get_group, export_contacts, get_analytics, call_recordings (recordings made with the Kaption extension in Chrome or Edge; desktop app recordings are not included yet)
• Writes a private summary: summarize_conversation
• Organize: manage_labels, manage_notes (WhatsApp Business), manage_chat (archive, pin, mute, read/unread, draft), manage_reminders, manage_lists
• Schedules a message to one 1:1 chat (≤800 characters): manage_scheduled_messages

Limits

• No tool sends a message immediately.
• Locked chats are never visible.
• Works only while Kaption (extension in WhatsApp Web, or desktop app) is open; otherwise tools return "Extension not connected".
• Bulk or unsolicited messaging is forbidden by the terms; access is rate-limited.

Trust

• Off by default; revocable any time.
• The relay forwards requests and answers and cannot read messages. Source: https://github.com/Kaption-AI/mcp-extension-remote. Deploys are Sigstore-signed and recorded in a public hash-chained log.
• Reminders and scheduled messages are stored in Kaption Cloud; messages are not.
