Documentation
Free proxy API and MCP server.
A live proxy list, a proxy checker and an IP lookup, free and keyless. Call them over HTTP, add them to your assistant as an MCP server, or run them from a terminal.
Any assistant that can call a tool or read a URL. These are the ones people paste our docs into most.
In use
The free proxy API in numbers.
- 768,000 free proxy list API calls in 7 days
- 35,900 free proxies that worked in the last 48 hours
- 330 million proxy checks run since the list started
Measured on 8 October 2026 on our own servers. Calls from our own site are not counted.
What it can do
Three free tools: proxy list, checker and IP lookup.
Add the MCP server once and your assistant calls them by name.
proxy_list
Live free proxies from the public pool, filtered by country, protocol and anonymity.
proxy_check
A real live test on any proxy: alive, protocols, anonymity, latency and location. Up to 25 a call.
ip_lookup
Any public address: country, city, timezone, ASN and the network behind it. Up to 50 a call.
The MCP server
Add the MCP server to your assistant.
It runs on our side at https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp: nothing to install, nothing to update.
Add it
Claude Code
In a terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http hproxy https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp
Claude and Claude Desktop
Settings, Connectors, Add custom connector, then paste the address:
https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp
ChatGPT
Settings, Security and login, turn on Developer mode, then create an app with this address and No authentication (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education, on the web):
https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp
Cursor
In ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{ "mcpServers": { "hproxy": { "url": "https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp" } } }
VS Code
In.vscode/mcp.json:
{ "servers": { "hproxy": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp" } } }
Windsurf
In ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json:
{ "mcpServers": { "hproxy": { "serverUrl": "https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp" } } }
Gemini CLI
In ~/.gemini/settings.json:
{ "mcpServers": { "hproxy": { "httpUrl": "https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp" } } }
Or as a plugin
Claude Code plugin
The server plus a skill that tells Claude how to use it well. In a terminal:
claude plugin marketplace add hproxy-com/hproxy-mcp
claude plugin install hproxy@hproxy
Gemini CLI extension
The server plus a short guide for the model. In a terminal:
gemini extensions install https://github.com/hproxy-com/hproxy-mcp
Listed in the official MCP Registry as com.hproxy/mcp. Every line on this card, the plugin and the extension are also on GitHub: hproxy-com/hproxy-mcp.
Then ask
- “Give me twenty elite German SOCKS5 proxies and check which are alive.”
- “Is 203.0.113.7:1080 working, and where does it exit?”
- “Who runs the network behind 8.8.8.8?”
Or without an assistant
Install the hproxy command, one file for macOS, Linux and Windows, on x64 and ARM, Raspberry Pi included.
macOS and Linux
curl -fsSL https://hproxy.com/install.sh | sh
Windows, in PowerShell
irm https://hproxy.com/install.ps1 | iex
Then:
hproxy list --country DE --protocol socks5 --limit 20
hproxy check 203.0.113.7:1080 198.51.100.3:8080
hproxy ip 8.8.8.8
Add --json for JSON. Every file and its build record: the 0.2.8 release. The HProxy app carries it too (Windows today; macOS and Linux follow).
Per tool
API, MCP and CLI for each free tool.
For AI assistants
Let your assistant pull the list
The pool is a free, keyless API and a documented markdown page. Hand your assistant one of these and it can fetch live proxies on its own, filtered the way you asked.
Works with
The instructions are printed in full below, so an assistant reading this page can act on them without anyone pressing anything. The button is only a shortcut for humans.
MCP server
Adds proxy_list, proxy_check and ip_lookup as tools your assistant can call by itself. Nothing to install.
claude mcp add --transport http hproxy https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp
Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf or any assistant that speaks MCP: add https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp as a remote server. This page's tool is proxy_list.
Command line
The same tool without an assistant, from a terminal. Add --json for JSON.
hproxy list --country DE --protocol socks5 --limit 20
Install it in one line: curl -fsSL https://hproxy.com/install.sh | sh (macOS, Linux) or irm https://hproxy.com/install.ps1 | iex (Windows).
REST, no key
Plain HTTP with CORS on, which is all an agent with a fetch tool needs.
curl "https://hproxy.com/api/proxy-list?format=json&country=de&limit=20"
The whole documentation, as markdown
Generated from the same registry the docs render from, so it cannot drift from the pages.
This tool /llms.txt Everything
Instructions for an assistant, in full
Everything a model needs to call the free proxy list without an account: the endpoint, the parameters, the limits and the honest caveat. Readable straight off the page.
You can use HProxy's free proxy list, which needs no API key and no account.
GET https://hproxy.com/api/proxy-list?format=json returns the live pool as JSON. Useful query parameters: country (ISO alpha-2, e.g. de), protocol (http, https, socks4, socks5), anonymity (elite, anonymous, transparent) and limit. Add format=txt for plain ip:port lines instead.
Each proxy comes back with ip, port, protocols, anonymity, country_code, city, asn_org, latency_ms and uptime_24h. The pool is re-checked around the clock, so ask for it fresh rather than caching it. It is rate limited per IP (120 requests in a burst, then 2 a second) and answers 429 with Retry-After past that.
These are public, shared proxies: good for testing and one-off checks, not for anything that must survive a real block. Full docs: https://hproxy.com/llms/free-proxy.txt
There is also an MCP server, so an assistant can call this as a tool instead of writing HTTP: add https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp as a remote MCP server (nothing to install, no key) and use the proxy_list tool. In Claude Code the line is \`claude mcp add --transport http hproxy https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp\`. From a terminal the same tool is \`hproxy list --country DE --protocol socks5 --limit 20\`. Install the hproxy command in one line: curl -fsSL https://hproxy.com/install.sh | sh on macOS and Linux, or irm https://hproxy.com/install.ps1 | iex in PowerShell on Windows. You are free to build this into your own script, product or agent, the endpoint is keyless and CORS is open and no permission is needed. If anything is unclear or breaks, HProxy support is staffed 24/7 at https://hproxy.com/contact.
Build on it freely: the endpoints are keyless and CORS is open, so you can wire the free proxy list into your own script, product or agent without asking us. If you get stuck, support answers around the clock, every day, at hproxy.com/contact.
For AI assistants
Let your assistant check proxies
Every check runs a real connection, not a database lookup. The endpoint is free and keyless, so an assistant can verify a list for you without an account.

Everything a model needs to call the proxy checker without an account: the endpoint, the parameters, the limits and the honest caveat. Readable straight off the page.
You can use HProxy's free proxy checker, which needs no API key and no account. Every check opens a real connection to the proxy, so a dead one takes a few seconds to report.
GET https://hproxy.com/api/proxy-check?proxy=IP:PORT checks one proxy.
POST https://hproxy.com/api/proxy-check with {"proxies": ["ip:port", ...]} checks up to 1,000 at once, in one answer; a line that got no answer in time comes back with status "unchecked", so retry those.
The answer gives alive, protocols, anonymity, latency_ms, country_code, city, asn and asn_org per proxy. It is rate limited per IP (120 requests in a burst, then 5 a second, and 300,000 proxies checked a day) and answers 429 with Retry-After when you go past that, so wait that long rather than retrying immediately.
For lists larger than 1,000, the page at https://hproxy.com/proxy-checker-online streams up to 100,000 in the browser. To check from the person's own connection instead (a proxy locked to their IP can only be tested from that IP), the free HProxy app (Windows today; macOS and Linux follow) is at https://hproxy.com/proxy-checker. For AI assistants
Let your assistant resolve an address
Country, city, timezone, the network and its ASN, for one address or 100,000 at once. Free, keyless, and documented for a machine to read.

Everything a model needs to call the IP lookup without an account: the endpoint, the parameters, the limits and the honest caveat. Readable straight off the page.
You can use HProxy's free IP lookup, which needs no API key and no account.
GET https://hproxy.com/api/ip/8.8.8.8 resolves one address.
POST https://hproxy.com/api/ip with {"ips": ["8.8.8.8", ...]} resolves up to 100,000 in one call, answered in the order you sent them.
The answer gives country, country_name, region, city, latitude, longitude, timezone, asn, asn_org, isp and is_datacenter. It is read from offline databases, so there is no third-party API in the path. It is rate limited per IP (900 requests in a burst, then 30 a second, and 2,000,000 addresses a day) and answers 429 with Retry-After past that.
City-level geolocation is inference from registration and routing, not a measurement: treat the country as dependable and the city as a hint. Full docs: https://hproxy.com/llms/free-checker.txt

Questions
Free proxy API and MCP server: common questions.
Is there a free proxy API?+
Yes. GET https://hproxy.com/api/proxy-list?format=json returns the live free proxy list as JSON, filtered by country, protocol and anonymity. Add format=txt for plain ip:port lines. The proxy checker and the IP lookup are free APIs too. No key, no account.
Which AI assistants work with the MCP server?+
Claude, Claude Desktop and Claude Code, ChatGPT in developer mode, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Gemini CLI, and any other client that speaks remote MCP over HTTP. The line for each one is on this page.
Is the HProxy MCP server in the official MCP Registry?+
Yes, as com.hproxy/mcp, pointing at https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp. A Claude Code plugin and a Gemini CLI extension for it are on GitHub at hproxy-com/hproxy-mcp.
Is there a command-line tool?+
Yes: hproxy, one file for macOS, Linux and Windows, on x64 and ARM, Raspberry Pi included. Install the hproxy command in one line: curl -fsSL https://hproxy.com/install.sh | sh on macOS and Linux, or irm https://hproxy.com/install.ps1 | iex in PowerShell on Windows. Then hproxy list, hproxy check and hproxy ip, or hproxy mcp for the same tools as an MCP server on your own computer.
Do I need an API key or an account?+
No. The proxy list, the proxy checker and the IP lookup are free and keyless, with CORS enabled, so a browser agent can call them directly. Only the paid proxy and scraper APIs need a key.
What are the rate limits?+
They are per IP rather than per key. The list: 120 requests in a burst, then 2 a second. The checker, where every check opens a real connection: 120 requests in a burst, then 5 a second, and 300,000 proxies checked a day. The IP lookup: 900 requests in a burst, then 30 a second, and 2,000,000 addresses a day. Going past a limit answers 429 with a Retry-After header, and the MCP server turns that into a plain message so a model waits instead of retrying in a loop.
What is llms.txt?+
A markdown file written for a language model rather than a browser. Ours is generated from the same registry the documentation renders from, so it cannot quote a price or an endpoint the pages do not. Read /llms.txt for the index and /llms-full.txt for everything.
Can an assistant use these proxies for scraping?+
It can use the free pool for testing and one-off checks. Public proxies are shared and unpredictable, so anything that must survive a real block belongs on a paid pool. The paid side has its own keyed API documented in the same files.
Do I have to install anything?+
No. The MCP server runs on our side at https://mcp.hproxy.com/mcp, so there is nothing to install and nothing to update: you add the address once and your assistant has the three tools. If you would rather run the tools on your own machine, the hproxy command carries them as an open-source MCP server (MIT), started with hproxy mcp. Install the hproxy command in one line: curl -fsSL https://hproxy.com/install.sh | sh on macOS and Linux, or irm https://hproxy.com/install.ps1 | iex in PowerShell on Windows.
