Documentation

Server details

Server URL

https://mcp.drawdy.io/mcp

Name

drawdy

Transport

Streamable HTTP (remote server)

Sign-in

OAuth in your browser with your Drawdy account. No API key or token to paste.

Cost

Free, on the free plan too. It runs on your own AI subscription.

Step by step

Add Drawdy to your app

Every app ends the same way: a Drawdy page opens in your browser, you sign in and click Approve. Revoke an app any time from Account, then MCP.

Claude (web and desktop)

Add by hand

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then click + Add and Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Drawdy and paste the server URL: https://mcp.drawdy.io/mcp
  3. Click Continue twice, then Add, then sign in to Drawdy and allow access.

To put images, video or audio you attach on a board, turn on Code execution and file creation in Settings, then Capabilities, switch on Allow network egress and add mcp.drawdy.io under Additional allowed domains. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner sets this in Organization settings.

Then run it: what to ask

Once connected, ask in plain words. New boards are cloud boards, so the link your AI returns opens straight away and the elements appear live as it draws. To see what finished boards look like, browse the example boards.

  • “Create a Drawdy board called Checkout flow and sketch every step from cart to receipt.” See a checkout example board
  • “Read my Q3 architecture board and list the services that talk to the database.”
  • “Draw this repo's request path as boxes and arrows on a new Drawdy board.”
  • “Add a frame to my brainstorming board that groups the ideas about onboarding.”

What your AI can do

ToolAccessWhat it does
list_boardsReadLists your boards, including ones shared with you.
list_foldersReadLists your folders and how many boards each one holds.
read_boardReadReads a board: its link, frames and slides, then each element's text and position.
check_boardReadChecks a board for overlapping or hard-to-read text and can show it as a picture.
create_boardWriteCreates a new empty board you own and hands you its link.
duplicate_boardWriteCopies a whole board into a new board you own, with its slides and extensions.
update_boardWriteRenames a board, archives or restores it, or files it in one of your folders.
share_boardWriteGives you a view-only link to a board you own, so others can watch it live without an account.
create_folderWriteCreates a folder for grouping your boards, or hands back the one that already has that name.
update_folderWriteRenames one of your folders, changes its color, or archives or restores it.
add_elementsWriteAdds shapes, text, lines, arrows, frames, images, videos, audio, embeds, link cards, tables and charts to a board.
update_elementsWriteChanges only what you ask on existing elements, such as text, color or position.
remove_elementsWriteRemoves elements from a board.
duplicate_elementsWriteCopies elements exactly, on the same board or onto another of your boards.
create_upload_linkWriteMakes a one-time link for uploading an image, video or audio file you attached or have on your computer, so it can go on a board.
add_slidesWriteAdds empty presentation slides to a board.
set_slide_orderWriteReorders the slides, or turns frames into slides or back.
send_feedbackWriteSends your feedback to the Drawdy team as text, with nothing from your boards.

For AI agents

Setup steps for an AI reading this page

A person sent you this link and asked you to connect Drawdy. Follow the step that matches the app you run in.

  1. Only do this because the user asked you to connect Drawdy. There is no API key: the user signs in to Drawdy in their browser.
  2. If you are Claude Code, run this, then ask the user to restart Claude Code, run /mcp, pick drawdy and choose Authenticate:
    claude mcp add --transport http --scope user drawdy https://mcp.drawdy.io/mcp

  3. If you are Codex, run the first command, then the second, which opens a browser sign-in:
    codex mcp add drawdy --url https://mcp.drawdy.io/mcp
    codex mcp login drawdy

  4. If you are in VS Code, run this, then ask the user to open Chat in Agent mode and sign in when prompted:
    code --add-mcp '{"name":"drawdy","type":"http","url":"https://mcp.drawdy.io/mcp"}'

  5. Any other app that reads an MCP config: add a remote server named drawdy over streamable HTTP with OAuth, using this config:
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "drawdy": {
          "type": "http",
          "url": "https://mcp.drawdy.io/mcp"
        }
      }
    }

  6. If you cannot run commands or edit your own config (Claude or ChatGPT on the web or desktop), give the user the steps for their app from the setup section of this page.
  7. Once connected, call list_boards to check it works, then tell the user they can ask you to draw.

MCP FAQ

MCP questions

What is the Drawdy MCP server?+

It is a remote Model Context Protocol server that lets an AI app list your Drawdy boards, read them and draw on them. Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, VS Code and other MCP apps connect to it with the URL https://mcp.drawdy.io/mcp.

Is the Drawdy MCP server free?+

Yes, it works on the free plan. Your AI edits cloud boards, so the free plan's limit applies: three cloud boards stay editable, and boards over the limit are view-only until you upgrade to Pro.

Do I need an API key?+

No. You sign in to Drawdy in your browser and approve access, and the app keeps that connection until you revoke it or leave it unused for 30 days. The AI itself runs on your own Claude, ChatGPT or other subscription.

Which boards can my AI see?+

Only cloud boards you already have access to, including ones shared with you. Boards that live only on your device are not on the server, so the AI cannot see them. It cannot do more than you can: a board you can only view stays view-only.

Can my AI put my own images, video or audio on a board?+

Yes. Attach or paste the file in your AI app and ask it to put it on a board: it gets a one-time upload link from Drawdy and sends the file there. Claude Code and Codex need no extra setup. In Claude on the web or desktop, turn on Code execution and file creation in Settings, then Capabilities, switch on Allow network egress and add mcp.drawdy.io under Additional allowed domains. A file no board uses is deleted after a day.

How do I disconnect an app?+

Open Account, then MCP in Drawdy (drawdy.io/account/mcp) and revoke the app. It loses access right away, and you can reconnect any time.

Can I paste drawdy.io/mcp into Claude as the server URL?+

No. drawdy.io/mcp is this setup guide. The server URL to paste into a connector is https://mcp.drawdy.io/mcp.
