MCP Server

Integrate the Zavu messaging API directly into AI assistants using Model Context Protocol (MCP).

The Zavu MCP Server enables AI assistants like Claude, Cursor, and others to interact directly with the Zavu API. Send messages, manage templates, create broadcasts, and more through natural language.

[!NOTE]

We're updating the MCP server. In the meantime, Coding Agent Skills give your agent what it needs to use the Zavu API. If you already have Deno 2.6 or earlier installed, you can run the server with code execution on your own machine by adding --code-execution-mode=local --docs-search-mode=local to the arguments below.

Quick Start

Run the MCP Server directly via npx:

export ZAVUDEV_API_KEY="your_key"
npx -y @zavudev/sdk-mcp@latest

Every client below runs this same command. Only the place you put it, and the shape of that file, changes. Replace your_key with an API key from the dashboard.

Installation by Client

Claude Code

claude mcp add zavudev --scope user -e ZAVUDEV_API_KEY="your_key" -- npx -y @zavudev/sdk-mcp

Codex

codex mcp add zavudev --env ZAVUDEV_API_KEY="your_key" -- npx -y @zavudev/sdk-mcp

Claude Desktop

Add to your Claude Desktop configuration file, keeping any servers already there:

// ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "zavudev": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@zavudev/sdk-mcp"],
      "env": { "ZAVUDEV_API_KEY": "your_key" }
    }
  }
}
// %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "zavudev": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@zavudev/sdk-mcp"],
      "env": { "ZAVUDEV_API_KEY": "your_key" }
    }
  }
}

Cursor

Click the button below to install the MCP server in Cursor. It adds the server with YOUR_API_KEY as the key: replace it in Cursor's mcp.json (Settings > Tools & MCP).

Add to Cursor

Or add it to ~/.cursor/mcp.json yourself:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "zavudev": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@zavudev/sdk-mcp"],
      "env": { "ZAVUDEV_API_KEY": "your_key" }
    }
  }
}

Windsurf reads the same shape from ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

VS Code

Install in VS Code, then replace YOUR_API_KEY via Command Palette > MCP: Open User Configuration.

Or add it to .vscode/mcp.json. VS Code reads servers, not mcpServers:

{
  "servers": {
    "zavudev": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@zavudev/sdk-mcp"],
      "env": { "ZAVUDEV_API_KEY": "your_key" }
    }
  }
}

Zed

Add to Zed's settings.json. Zed reads context_servers:

{
  "context_servers": {
    "zavudev": {
      "source": "custom",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@zavudev/sdk-mcp"],
      "env": { "ZAVUDEV_API_KEY": "your_key" }
    }
  }
}

Tools

The server exposes two tools rather than one per endpoint, which keeps the client's context small while covering the whole API:

ToolDescription
executeRuns TypeScript against an authenticated Zavu client. The agent chains calls: list your senders, send a message, read a conversation.
search_docsSearches the API documentation, so the agent looks up a parameter instead of guessing it.

To start the server with only one of them, pass --tools=code or --tools=docs. Those are the only accepted values: any other value makes the server print its help and exit, and the client then shows it as failed.

By default, code run by execute runs in a hosted sandbox. Pass --code-execution-mode=local to run it on your machine instead.

Hosted server

A hosted endpoint is available as an alternative to the local process. It takes the key in the x-zavudev-api-key header:

claude mcp add zavudev --scope user --transport http https://zavudev.stlmcp.com --header "x-zavudev-api-key: your_key"

You can also serve it yourself over HTTP with npx -y @zavudev/sdk-mcp --transport=http --port=3000.

Usage Examples

Once configured, ask your AI assistant:

  • "List my senders and which channels each one can send on"
  • "List my WhatsApp templates"
  • "Create a broadcast campaign for Black Friday"
  • "Check the progress of my current broadcast"
  • "Search for available US phone numbers"
