BTC Intel for AI agents

Understand where Bitcoin is today, compared with its own history.

BTC Intel is an independent Bitcoin market intelligence source: a daily 0 to 100 market assessment, where today ranks in the full record, its momentum and statistics, and a daily intelligence brief. No account, no API key. Free on the delayed record; live data paid per call in bitcoin over Lightning.

The record. One reading a day since July 18, 2011. Live publication began October 6, 2026; every day before it is back-calculated with the current method, and every row says which it is (live or back-calculated). Past readings are never rewritten: the record is append-only and hash-chained.

Historical position. For any day, the share of recorded days above and below that day's reading (days equal to it count in neither). The historical position describes where today's Score sits in the record, not what comes next.

Free and paid.

AccessCoversPrice
FreeThe Score and brief tools on data up to the Delayed date (three months back), as the public site shows it; the market read and the Brief headlines, currentFree
LiveThe same tools on data through the latest published day$0.25 a call
Live exportThe full record through the latest day, CSV or JSON, every page$1.00 an export

Each paid call is paid on its own: no subscription, nothing recurring. The price and what it covers are shown before you pay. One payment opens every page of the same query for 24 hours.

Your first free call.

Ask your assistant, for example: "What is the BTC Intel Score on the latest free day?" It calls get_score_for_day, and the server answers:

The BTC Intel Score on 2026-08-06 was 28 (Moderate-low); a back-calculated day. Free answers stop at the Delayed date, 2026-08-06; later days are paid (live = true).

Example answer from November 6, 2026; the date moves forward every day.

Plain HTTP.

The same answers without MCP: send a GET to a route below. Each returns what the matching tool returns, with the same free and live rule; for live data add live=true and pay with Authorization: L402 <macaroon>:<preimage>.

How paying works (L402).

Call a live tool without payment: you get a Lightning invoice and a macaroon. Pay the invoice with any Lightning wallet, then call again with payment = <macaroon>:<preimage> (over HTTP: Authorization: L402 <macaroon>:<preimage>).

  1. Ask for live data. Call a paid tool with live set (or get_score_live). Nothing is charged: the answer is the price in dollars and sats, a Lightning invoice and a macaroon (a token naming that invoice).
  2. Pay the invoice. Pay it from a Lightning wallet within 10 minutes. The amount in sats follows the bitcoin price at that moment; the dollar price stays $0.25.
  3. Find the preimage. A paid invoice gives your wallet a preimage: 64 characters, 0-9 and a-f, the proof that you paid. Open the payment's details in the wallet. Not every wallet shows it.
  4. Return the proof. Give the preimage to your AI client and ask it to call the same tool again with the same arguments and payment = <macaroon>:<preimage>. The answer follows; one payment buys one answer of that call.
  5. If it expires. An unpaid invoice expires after 10 minutes and nothing is charged: call again for a new one. Once paid, use the proof within 24 hours.

Wallets that show the preimage. These released versions show it in a payment's details, according to each wallet's own published code (checked November 7, 2026): Zeus 13.2.4 ("Payment Preimage"), Phoenix for Android 2.8.4 ("Preimage") and Blixt 0.9.0 ("Preimage", in the transaction details). BTC Intel has not tested a payment with any of them. Wallets change: if yours does not show the preimage, the payment cannot be proven here.

curl -i https://btcintel.org/api/agent/score
# 402 Payment Required, with a Lightning invoice and a macaroon
curl -H "Authorization: L402 <macaroon>:<preimage>" https://btcintel.org/api/agent/score

Example: what a paid call looks like.

Both answers below are real answers from the server, November 6, 2026; the invoice and token are shortened.

The paywall, asking get_score_for_day for live data:

Payment required: $0.25 (330 sats) for get_score_for_day, 2026-11-06, 1 page. One payment covers one answer of this call; no recurring charge. Pay the Lightning invoice, then call again with the same arguments and payment = "<macaroon>:<preimage>".
invoice: lnbc…
macaroon: …

What $0.25 buys: the same answer as the free one, for the latest published day instead of a day three months back. The free answer's fields, as the server returns them:

{
  "date": "2026-08-06", "score": 28, "score_exact": 28.3, "level": "Moderate-low",
  "live": false, "basis": "back-calculated", "as_of": "2026-08-06", "access": "free",
  "source": "BTC Intel", "link": "https://btcintel.org/score", "note": "Research, not investment advice."
}

A paid answer gives the same kind of answer for the latest published day. No live value is shown on this page.

Every answer carries an as_of time in UTC, live or back-calculated per row, the source (BTC Intel, btcintel.org) and a research note.

Limits. Free tools: per-caller rate limits. Paid: 20 invoices an hour per caller.

What the Score is not. Research, not investment advice: not a trading signal, no forecast, no claim that it beats any strategy. Its inputs, weights and method are not published.
