MCP Server URL
https://onbrightsite.com/api/mcp
Paste this URL into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client. Authentication runs over OAuth 2.1 — no API keys.
What is the Model Context Protocol?
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard, introduced by Anthropic in late 2024, for connecting AI assistants to external tools and data. Think of it as a universal adapter — any MCP-compatible assistant can work with any MCP-compatible service without custom plugins.
The BrightSite MCP server is the official implementation for BrightSite websites. Connect it once to an assistant and you get a full, conversation-driven CMS: create pages, draft posts, upload media, set redirects, edit SEO, read analytics — all without leaving the chat.
Compatible AI assistants
The same server URL works for every MCP client. We currently document setup for:
[### Claude
Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise via custom connectors.](/integrations/claude) [### ChatGPT
Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise via custom connectors.](/integrations/chatgpt)
Cursor & Windsurf
Add the server URL to your MCP config — works out of the box.
Any MCP client
Cline, Zed, Claude Code, or any tool that speaks MCP.
What the server exposes
The BrightSite MCP server exposes the full BrightSite CMS as a set of tools any assistant can call.
Pages
Create, edit, publish, unpublish, and delete pages — including HEEx templates, custom CSS, and meta data.
Blog posts
Draft, edit, schedule, publish, and delete posts. Attach feature images.
Layouts & components
Manage shared headers, footers, and reusable design components.
Forms
Create forms, view submissions, and manage form fields.
Media
Upload images and files, organize folders, attach media to pages and posts.
Redirects
Create and manage 301 and 302 URL redirects.
SEO
Edit meta titles, descriptions, structured data, and site identity.
Analytics
Read visitor counts, top pages, top referrers, browser, device, and country breakdowns.
Version history
See past versions of any page, post, or component, and restore them.
Connect an assistant
Setup takes under a minute. Pick your assistant for client-specific steps:
[### Connect Claude →
Custom connector in Claude Settings.](/integrations/claude) [### Connect ChatGPT →
Custom connector in ChatGPT Settings.](/integrations/chatgpt)
For any MCP client, the general flow is:
- 1 Open your assistant's MCP or connector settings
- 2
Add a remote MCP server with URL
https://onbrightsite.com/api/mcp - 3 Sign in to BrightSite via the OAuth window that appears
- 4
Approve the
mcp:fullscope — the connector is ready
BrightSite Skills
Skills are reusable instruction packs that teach an AI assistant how to do specific BrightSite jobs well — things like writing a landing page, drafting a blog post, setting up redirects after a migration, or building out an alternatives page. They plug into Claude and other MCP-aware clients alongside the BrightSite MCP server.
Our skills are open source and live on GitHub. Browse them, fork them, or contribute your own.

Example prompts
Edit a page
"Update the headline on my homepage to say 'Built for fast-moving teams'"
The assistant reads the live page, edits the heading in staged content, and publishes the change.
Publish a blog post
"Write a 600-word post announcing our new pricing and publish it"
It drafts the post, sets a slug and excerpt, attaches a feature image, and publishes.
Bulk text replace
"Replace 'Free trial' with 'Start free' across every page"
It finds every match, updates staged content, and surfaces a list for review before publishing.
Check analytics
"What were my top 5 pages last month and where did the traffic come from?"
It pulls top pages and referrers for the last 30 days and summarizes them.
Set up redirects
"I renamed /pricing-old to /pricing — set up a 301 redirect"
It creates a permanent redirect so old links keep working.
Security & permissions
- OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. No API keys to leak. The assistant never sees your BrightSite password.
- Scoped access. The connector requests one scope:
mcp:full. Limited to BrightSite accounts you authorize. - Staged-first edits. All page and component changes land in staged content. Nothing reaches your live site without an explicit publish.
- Destructive actions are marked. Delete operations are tagged as destructive so well-behaved clients confirm before running them.
- Revoke anytime. Settings → API Keys & Connections in BrightSite cuts off access instantly.
Frequently asked questions
Is the BrightSite MCP server free?
Yes. MCP access is included on every BrightSite plan at no extra charge.
Do I need a developer to use this?
No. If you can paste a URL into Claude or ChatGPT settings, you're done. The assistant handles the rest in plain English.
Which assistants are supported?
Any client that speaks Model Context Protocol — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, Zed, Claude Code, and others. The same URL works for all of them.
Can the AI delete my site?
Destructive actions are tagged so well-behaved clients confirm before running them. Edits also default to staged content — nothing publishes without an explicit publish step.
Is the MCP server open source?
The hosted server itself is closed source for now, but MCP is an open protocol — any compatible client works. Our skill packs are open source at github.com/BrightSiteHQ/skills, and example prompts and documentation live on this site.
Where do I report a bug?
Email [email protected].
Ready to try it?
