Connect Xem Studio to your AI
Give your assistant real-world dimensions, mating interfaces, and available STEP/STL references while you design.
Free to connect · No Xem account or API key · Works with compatible MCP clients
Which AI are you using?
Connect to Claude
- Go to Customize → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web.
- Name:
CopyPart Dimensions & CAD (Xem Studio) - URL:
Copyhttps://xemstudio.com/mcp - No sign in → Save. Turn it on under + → Connectors.
On Team or Enterprise, an organization owner may need to add the connector.
Using Claude Code?
One line in a terminal, once per computer. --scope user makes it load in every project; without it, it only works in the folder you ran it in.
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user xem-part-dimensions-cad https://xemstudio.com/mcp
Want your AI to help set it up?
Copy this into your assistant. It can walk you through settings—or perform supported setup steps if it has the necessary tools and your permission.
Help me connect Xem Studio (https://xemstudio.com/mcp) to Claude. If you can configure the MCP server with my permission, do so. Otherwise guide me through the settings. Don't say it is connected until you actually verify a successful Xem Studio tool call.
The prompt updates automatically when you select a different AI above.
Test your connection
Start a new chat and ask a design question without mentioning Xem. A connected assistant should look the part up in Xem on its own:
I'm 3D printing a base plate for a Raspberry Pi 5. Where do the standoffs go and what screw size?
You should see a Xem Studio tool call (58 × 49 mm hole pattern, M2.5). If the answer came from memory or a web search, do the 30-second step below once.
Make it automatic (30 seconds, once)
Assistants choose on their own which connected tools to use, and they often answer well-known parts from memory. One line in your assistant's personal preferences or custom instructions makes it check Xem in every chat, so you never have to ask:
When I design, print or buy something that mounts to, holds or fits a real object (bracket, mount, enclosure, case, tray, adapter), look up that object's dimensions, hole pattern and fits in the Xem Studio connector before answering from memory or web search, even for standard parts.
Claude: personal preferences in your profile settings. ChatGPT: custom instructions in Personalization. Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, Codex: add it to your rules file, CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md.
