XFileSharing: AI MCP mod

Connect your site to Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP-compatible AI clients. With this mod your users can browse, organize and manage their files straight from an AI chat — no need to log in to the member area.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect securely to external services. Once enabled, each user gets a personal MCP endpoint URL to add as a custom connector in their AI client of choice, which then guides them through sign-in and authorization.

Supported operations

Browse & read

  • list_folders — list sub-folders and files inside a shared folder
  • list_files — list files, optionally restricted to a folder or filtered by name
  • file_info — get metadata for a file by its file code
  • account_stats — get account storage usage and balance

Organize

  • create_folder — create a new folder inside a shared folder
  • rename_file / rename_folder — rename files and folders
  • move_files — move files into another folder

Delete

  • trash_files — move files to trash (or delete if trash is disabled)
  • trash_folder — move a folder and its contents to trash

Upload

  • upload_url — queue a remote URL for download into a shared folder
  • clone_file — copy a file into another shared folder

Download links

  • generate_link — generate a direct download link for a file

Full user control over access

MCP access is disabled by default. When a user turns it on, they choose:

  • which operation groups AI clients may perform — browse & read, organize, delete, upload and download links can each be enabled independently;
  • which folders are visible to AI clients — their entire account, or only specific folders (and their sub-folders).

Nothing is exposed to any AI client until the user explicitly shares at least one folder or their whole account.

How it works

  1. The user enables MCP access and sets allowed operations and folders in their account settings.
  2. They copy their personal MCP endpoint URL.
  3. They add it as a custom connector in their AI client (e.g. Claude), which walks them through sign-in and authorization.

From that point on, the AI assistant can manage their files directly from the chat — safely, and only within the limits the user set.
