Data sources

Official California Department of Education SACS public filings, with reporting period, basis, dataset references, provenance, and limitations in results. SACS.ai is independent and not affiliated with CDE.

Tools and first calls

Initialize MCP, call tools/list, then use the returned schemas. A browser GET to the endpoint is not an MCP connection test.

  1. sacs_search_districts: {"query":"Los Angeles Unified","limit":5} — confirm the district and CDS identifier.
  2. sacs_list_public_datasets: use the returned district identifier to discover available fiscal years, reporting periods, and bases.
  3. sacs_district_context_pack: choose a discovered year and basis, set fund_codes=["01"] for General Fund only, and start with detail="summary".

Other public tools provide financial summaries, district comparisons, SACS code explanations, dataset provenance, and bounded context-pack batches. Optional engagement tools are separate from public financial reads.

Evidence rules

Keep source provenance, fiscal year, basis, fund scope, data version, and limitations with every answer. A dataset reference is not necessarily a public source URL. Missing values are unknown, not zero. Do not compare different reporting bases without noting the difference.
