Claude Code August 10: Auto Mode Becomes the Default on Pro, Max and Team From August 14, v2.1.226 Is the Latest CLI, and Self-Hosted Runners Enter Public Beta

• The big change this week is not a feature, it is a default.
• From August 14, 2026 auto mode is on by default for Claude Code on Pro, Max and Team, with prompt-injection screening and customizable hard deny rules shipping alongside it.
• Anthropic's own numbers explain why: auto mode caught 89% of harmful actions in a 1,053-user test against 13.6% caught by human review, because users approve 97% of permission prompts anyway.
• Five CLI releases landed in six days, v2.1.222 through v2.1.226, closing a Bash permission bypass, hardening worktree isolation, adding gateway spend-limit warnings and fixing a burst of MCP OAuth 401 errors on macOS.

OpenAI Codex August 10: Codex CLI 0.147.0 Ships Portable Agent Plugins, the --approve-for-me Flag and Cursor Skill Import, and Sottiaux Says Today's Codex Will Seem Primitive in 2 to 3 Months

• Codex CLI 0.147.0, out August 7, is the biggest CLI release in weeks: portable Agent Plugins with local, personal, workspace and remote catalogs, a new --approve-for-me flag for automatically reviewed approvals, import of Cursor-managed skills, and opt-in support for the MCP 2026-07-28 protocol with paginated discovery and non-blocking server startup.
• It also redacts secrets and complete bearer tokens from displayed commands and replayed history, and removes the deprecated codex exec --full-auto flag, so anyone scripting Codex has a migration to make.
• On the roadmap side, OpenAI core products lead Thibault Sottiaux says Codex will seem primitive in 2 to 3 months, with Codex now past 8 million users and the planned Ona acquisition pointing at persistent cloud agents.

Cursor AI August 4: Five Google Workspace Plugins Let the Agent Read Gmail, Drive and Sheets, and Cursor Start Brings a Rs 649 Per Month India Plan With UPI Billing

• Two changelog entries define the Cursor week.
• On August 3 Cursor added five Google Workspace plugins - Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Docs and Sheets - so coding agents can search files, read and send mail, create events, and edit documents and spreadsheets without leaving the editor; install them from the Cursor Marketplace or the Customize page.
• On July 28 Cursor launched Cursor Start, a new plan for developers in India at 649 rupees per month, tax inclusive, billed in INR with UPI or card, including generous access to Grok 4.5 at fixed medium effort and non-fast Composer, always-on cloud agents, Cursor for iOS with remote control, and plugins, MCP servers, hooks and skills.
• Existing Free users in India upgrade from the dashboard.
