Navisworks MCP runs as a plug-in inside Navisworks Manage, so the assistant works on the live NWF or NWD — the same model your team reviews.

How it works

A plug-in in Navisworks, a server on your PC

When Navisworks starts, the plug-in starts by itself. Your AI assistant talks to the Navisworks MCP server on your PC, which passes each request to Navisworks over a private connection that only your Windows account can open.

With several Navisworks windows open, the assistant asks which one you mean — it never guesses. Long jobs such as clash runs and audits run in the background while you keep working.

Your AI assistants are connected for you

Nothing to configure. Setup connects every AI assistant it finds on your PC, and one you install later is connected by itself (at the next Navisworks start, or within 10 minutes while Navisworks is open). Restart the assistant, or start a new chat, after it was connected.

Sign in with the same Google or GitHub account as on your PC, and keep Navisworks open. Requests pass through the team gateway, which never stores or logs them. Needs a paid claude.ai plan or ChatGPT with Developer mode.

Safety

Nothing changes without you knowing

Navisworks MCP works on the Navisworks file only, and anything that removes work is shown to you first.

Preview before delete

Deleting or resetting sets, viewpoints, clash tests or results is always previewed first, and needs your yes.

One Undo step per change

Each change made through Navisworks MCP is one Undo step named “MCP: …”, where Navisworks supports undo.

Source models untouched

RVT, DWG, IFC and other source models are never changed — only the Navisworks file.

Read-only mode

Switch it on in AI Tools › Settings and assistants can read but never change anything.

Scripts off by default

AI-written C# scripts and UI automation stay off unless you switch them on.

Reports stay with you

Reports and audits are written to Documents\MCPs\Navisworks MCP reports on your PC.

What is shared

Your model stays on your PC

Navisworks MCP shares only what the AI learns about using its tools. Names, paths, GUIDs, numbers and values are replaced on the PC before anything is sent, and again at the gateway.

Missing something?

Ask for it. It gets added.

If Navisworks MCP cannot do something you ask, your AI assistant tells you, and offers to report it to the developer. Missing capabilities are added in new versions, which install themselves.

   Ask as usual

   Request anything in Navisworks. When no tool covers it, the assistant says so plainly instead of guessing.

   Agree to the report

   It shows you what it would send: what is missing, a full description and your request, without project or client names. Nothing is sent unless you agree.

   The developer receives it directly and adds the capability. The next version reaches every PC automatically.

What is Navisworks MCP?

Navisworks MCP is an AI plug-in for Autodesk Navisworks Manage with a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot and Cursor can work with the coordination model open on your PC.

Which Navisworks versions does it support?

Navisworks Manage 2025, 2026 and 2027 on Windows; it updates itself. Navisworks Freedom has no plug-in support.

Is Navisworks MCP free?

Yes. Navisworks MCP is free to download and use. The same Google or GitHub sign-in works for Revit MCP and Navisworks MCP.

Do I need administrator rights?

No. Setup installs Navisworks MCP for your Windows user only, so no administrator rights are needed.

Which AI assistants work with Navisworks?

On your PC: Claude Code, Claude app, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Cline and other MCP clients, connected automatically by setup. ChatGPT and claude.ai in the browser can connect through the optional Cloud AI access.

Does it change my source models?

No. RVT, DWG, IFC and other source models are never changed — only the Navisworks file. Deletes are previewed first, each change is one Undo step, and a read-only mode is available.

Does my model leave my PC?

No. Model, project, client, file and element names and values stay on your PC. Only AI-learning information is shared — which tool failed and what fixed it, with names and numbers removed — so your team's assistants avoid the same mistake. Cloud AI access, off unless you switch it on, passes ChatGPT's or claude.ai's requests to your PC without storing them.
