What is an MCP server?

An MCP server is a program that exposes tools an AI client can call over the Model Context Protocol. The client lists what the server offers, and the model calls a tool with arguments while it works.

seodraft's is a remote server rather than a local process: it lives at seodraft.app/mcp behind OAuth, so nothing is installed on your machine and every call arrives as your workspace. The tools read and write the same Postgres rows the app shows, so a post drafted in the chat is already on your calendar when you open it.

What the server gives your agent

One endpoint

seodraft.app/mcp, over HTTP streamable transport. There is nothing to install and no local process to keep alive.

OAuth from that URL

Discovery, dynamic client registration and PKCE all start at the same address, so there is no client id or API key to paste anywhere.

Everything an agent can drive: the profile, the evidence bank, topics, drafts, the rules, the calendar and delivery.

The write skill

get_skill returns the pipeline the agent follows before it drafts, and the same text is readable at seodraft.app/skill.

Stateless requests

The server issues no session id. Each request carries its own token, so a dropped connection has nothing to resume and the client just sends the next one.

Stale writes refused

Every post carries a version, and a write against an old one is refused with a version conflict instead of overwriting what you edited.

How an agent connects

Connecting is one paste into your agent's chat, with no config file to edit.

1. 1 You copy one prompt. The home carries a single Copy agent prompt button, and what it copies opens with the MCP URL, the transport and the OAuth details.
2. 2 The agent adds the server itself. It discovers the authorization server from that URL, registers itself, and asks for the scopes profile, email and offline_access.
3. 3 The first tool call proves it. Your home turns from waiting to connected when an authenticated call lands, never when you press something.

What it costs

The MCP server comes with the workspace: $5 a month, after a 7-day free trial that starts at signup and takes no card.

Calls cost nothing of their own. The writing runs inside the Claude or ChatGPT subscription you already pay for, and the only money seodraft can spend is your own DataForSEO balance, with the estimated cost shown before each paid call.

Which clients can connect?

Any MCP client that speaks HTTP streamable transport and OAuth. Claude Code, Cursor and Codex add the server themselves from the copied prompt. On claude.ai and ChatGPT a human adds it by hand, which is why the home also shows the bare URL with a copy button.

Can the agent publish a post?

There is no publish tool. approve_post checks the last rules run, marks the article ready, and sends a file with draft: true to your repository when a delivery target is configured. You publish from your own CMS.

What if the agent and I edit the same post?

A post carries a version number, and a write against a stale version comes back as “Version conflict. Reload and retry.” A late call from the agent cannot overwrite what you typed in the browser.

Troubleshooting

What to do when the connector will not connect, will not authenticate, or a tool call comes back with an error.

Claude says it couldn't reach the MCP server

Check that the connector points at https://seodraft.app/mcp exactly, with no trailing path. The server keeps no session id, so a dropped connection has nothing to resume. Retrying sends a fresh request rather than continuing a broken one. If it still fails, disconnect and reconnect the connector from Settings so it runs discovery again.

Sign-in fails, or the agent keeps asking to authenticate again

Any call with no valid token comes back Unauthorized, with a 401 that points the client back to OAuth discovery. Reconnecting from Settings runs the login again; the token is separate from your workspace data, so nothing there is affected. If a fresh login still fails, contact chorch@seodraft.app.

A tool call fails with "Payment required"

The exact message is “Payment required. Open /billing in the seodraft app to start the $5/mo plan.”, and it means the 7-day trial ended with no plan active. Open /billing and start the plan; the same call works right away, and no workspace data is touched while access is paused.

A tool returns degraded, reason missing-credentials, or dataConnected: false

That is not an error. seodraft holds no shared DataForSEO account: dataConnected: false means this workspace has not connected its own DataForSEO credentials yet, so topic and SERP tools return unmeasured estimates (mode: preview) instead of real search volume. Every tool still works without credentials; connecting DataForSEO from the workspace only switches it to measured data.
