Money is in cents. Search is cached; a quote re-reads the host's calendars and is the only binding price. Errors are application/problem+json with a stable code. Requests are rate limited per IP and per agent token (for example 60 searches and 30 quotes a minute, 10 booking requests an hour); over the limit you get 429 with a Retry-After header. A guest can have at most 3 unconfirmed booking requests open at once.

How booking works

Check each quote's booking_mode. With instant, the booking is confirmed as soon as the guest pays. With host_confirms, it's a request the host accepts or declines within the listing's response window (1–24 hours). Check each quote's payment object. When collected_by is threshold, request_booking returns a payment_url: the guest opens it and adds a card on a secure Stripe page, and only then does the request reach the host. The card is authorized and charged only if the host accepts, or, with plan: pay_later, charged on charge_date. Agents never handle card details. On the REST API (not over MCP), agents with a wallet that issues Stripe shared payment tokens (such as Stripe's Link agent wallet) can skip the page: when the response includes agent_payment, POST to its url, answer the 402 challenge (Machine Payments Protocol, method stripe) with a token for its network_id, and the hold is placed once the guest approves in their wallet. When collected_by is host, the host arranges payment after accepting. Tell guests plainly which applies, and show them the quote's house rules before setting house_rules_accepted.
