Documentation

Free, read-only access to every part number and fit, with sources.

Laptop Part Finder is built to be read by software as well as people. Every endpoint is free, read-only and needs no API key. Every fit includes the source_url it came from and a typed confidence (oem_manual, retailer or unverified). Current coverage: 362 laptop models, 4959 OEM parts and 8221 documented part-to-model fits.

JSON API

  • GET https://laptoppartfinder.com/api/models lists models (optional ?brand=Lenovo, ?category=business-laptop)
  • GET https://laptoppartfinder.com/api/models/{slug} one model with all its parts and sources, e.g. /api/models/lenovo-thinkpad-t490
  • GET https://laptoppartfinder.com/api/parts/{part_number} one part and every model it fits (part number or page slug), plus a paid eBay search link
  • GET https://laptoppartfinder.com/api/guides lists repair guides (optional ?model=, ?component=); GET https://laptoppartfinder.com/api/guides/{slug} returns one guide as Markdown with its official source and page citations (not bench-tested)
  • GET https://laptoppartfinder.com/api/search?q=t490 battery search models and parts (optional &type=Battery, &limit= up to 50)

Responses are JSON with open CORS and are cached for an hour. Full reference: /api/.

Plain-text summaries

Usage notes

  • Compatibility comes from OEM documentation and is not bench-tested. Check each fit's constraints (for example touch vs non-touch screens).
  • Models with more than one documented screen part carry panel_options (count, part_numbers, differs_by, connector_documented, advice). Panels for the same model can use different connectors or resolutions; have the user check their current panel's part number or connector before ordering.
  • We publish no prices, stock or ratings.
  • Please keep request rates modest; heavy automated use may be throttled.

Where-to-buy links (buy_links)

Current policy: API and MCP responses carry no affiliate-tagged links. Each part has lpf_url (its LPF page, with the labelled where-to-buy links) and untagged retailer searches in buy_links (affiliate: false).

Every part in /api/parts/{part_number}, /api/models/{slug}, /api/search and the MCP tools (get_part_fits, get_model_parts, search_parts) carries buy_links: [{merchant, label, url, affiliate, kind}]. These are the same links the part and model pages show: eBay and Amazon searches for every part, Newegg searches for chargers and SSDs, and LPScreen or PCLiquidations links where they are set up for the model. A buy_links_hint field asks agents to show them when the user wants to buy. They are paid affiliate links (LPF may earn a commission) and not a fit guarantee. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
