What is an SEO MCP server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way an AI agent connects to outside tools. An SEO MCP server gives your agent SEO tools it calls on its own: search volumes, Google’s live results and AI answer, competitors’ keywords, backlinks and your rankings. Your agent then does the SEO work in the chat or terminal you already use, with real numbers instead of guesses.
19 SEO tools, in plain words
Your agent picks the tool it needs. You never type a tool name, you ask for the work.
Research
What people search for, and who ranks for it.
- Keyword ideas around a topic, with volume and difficulty
find_keywords - Volume, difficulty and intent for keywords you already have
get_keyword_metrics - Every keyword a site or one of its pages ranks for
get_ranked_keywords - The sites you compete with on Google, and the keywords they win
get_competitors - Who links to a site, and its most linked pages
get_backlinks - Google’s live top 10 and its AI answer for any search
get_serp
Plan
Your sites, what Rillow remembers about them, and the pages to write next.
- Adds your site and pulls its rankings and competitors
create_project - Lists your sites
list_projects - What Rillow knows about your site, with its plan and notes
get_project - Saves facts about your site, so every session starts with them
remember - Adds keywords to your content plan and puts them in order
update_plan
Write
What your agent needs to write a page that can rank.
- A brief for one page: the top 10, their headings, the questions people ask and the AI answer
get_brief - Rillow’s guide for each kind of SEO work, from a new site to an audit
get_guide - Saves a page and checks it for SEO problems
save_article - Reads a saved page, with your edits from Rillow
get_article - Images for a page, in your site’s style
generate_image
Publish
Every page is a draft until you publish it.
- Sends a saved page to your site through a publish channel you set up
publish_article - Records a page’s live address, so Rillow starts tracking it
mark_published
Track
Rillow checks each published page on Google every day.
- Clicks, rankings and whether Google’s AI answer cites each page
get_performance
What it costs next to the Ahrefs and Semrush MCPs
Ahrefs and Semrush include MCP access only on their larger plans. Rillow is only the MCP server and its dashboard, so it starts much lower.
| Rillow | Ahrefs | Semrush | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cheapest plan with MCP | $19 a monthSolo, with 100 credits a month | $129 a monthLite | $199 a monthStarter, or $165.17 a month billed yearly |
| Try the MCP for free | 30 credits once, no credit card | No. The free plan and the $29 Starter plan don’t list MCP access | 7-day free trial |
| Next plan up | Pro, $49 a month, 350 credits and 5 sites | Standard, $249 a month | Pro+, $299 a month |
Prices from ahrefs.com/pricing and semrush.com/prices on 20 October 2026, billed monthly unless noted. Ahrefs and Semrush plans also include their full web apps. A Rillow credit is 10 cents of data.
Set up Rillow in your agent
Every agent uses the same address. The steps differ only in where you add it.
SEO in Claude Code
In your terminal
Claude Code works in your site’s code, so it can write a page and add it to your repo.
- 1
Run this in your terminal.
claude mcp add --transport http rillow https://rillow.ai/mcp - 2 Start Claude Code, run /mcp, choose rillow and sign in to Rillow.
SEO in claude.ai
On the web and in the Claude app
No terminal needed. Add Rillow once as a connector and use it in any chat. In the Claude directory, Rillow connects at rillow.ai/mcp/claude: the same tools without generate_image.
- 1 Open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
- 2
Name it Rillow, paste this address and add it.
https://rillow.ai/mcp - 3 Team plans
On Claude Team and Enterprise, an owner adds the connector for the organization first.
SEO in Codex
In your terminal
Codex works in your terminal next to your site’s code, so it can write pages straight into your repo.
- 1
Run this in your terminal.
codex mcp add rillow --url https://rillow.ai/mcp - 2
Codex opens your browser to sign in to Rillow. If it does not, run
codex mcp login rillow.
SEO in Cursor
In the Cursor app
Cursor’s agent uses Rillow while you edit your site.
- 1
Add Rillow to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, next to any servers already there.
{ "mcpServers": { "rillow": { "url": "https://rillow.ai/mcp" } } } - 2 In Cursor's settings, find rillow under MCP and sign in to Rillow.
SEO in Gemini CLI
In your terminal
Gemini CLI works in your terminal next to your site’s code, like Claude Code and Codex.
- 1
Run this in your terminal.
gemini mcp add --scope user --transport http rillow https://rillow.ai/mcp - 2 Start Gemini CLI, run /mcp auth rillow and sign in to Rillow.
Another agent
Any agent that supports MCP
- 1
Add Rillow as a remote MCP server with this address.
https://rillow.ai/mcp - 2
Then ask your agent
Use Rillow to set up SEO for my site.
Use Rillow to find keywords my site can rank for and plan my next five posts.
Write the next post in my Rillow plan.
