GovAuctions Data API
GovAuctions.app is a free public site for finding government surplus auctions and checking what similar lots actually sold for. This page is the developer door into that same data.
Government-surplus data built for code and AI agents - real sold-price comps, resale scores, and live listings
The GovAuctions API lets you explore live and historical surplus auction data at scale. Access past sales, sold-price comps, price trends and Flip Scores computed across six government-surplus markets: US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and France. You can also access live GSA federal-surplus listings, and webhooks that push new lots to you. Query it over REST, or add the hosted MCP server to Claude Code in one line.
Want the data itself rather than an API to query? Bulk data licensing gives you ongoing access to the full corpus as scheduled exports.
MCP server
Agents can connect and query with no key.
Pay per answer
100 free comps a month, then prepaid credits from $2.00 per 100 calls. A call that comes back empty costs nothing, and credits never expire.
Six countries
US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and France comps from the same endpoints and the same key.
Live listings
- •Active federal-surplus lots from GSA Auctions, in one clean schema
- •Filter by state, category, price, and keyword
- •ZIP-radius search: pass a ZIP and a mile radius, get lots nearest first
- •Clean JSON, facts only - pull images from each source URL
Sold-price comps
- •What comparable items actually sold for: p25 / median / p75
- •Six markets (US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and France), matched by item
- •Ask for the underlying sales too, so you can show your work
- •Price up to 100 items in a single batch call
Sold history & trends
- •The individual sales behind a number: price, month, state
- •Month-by-month medians - is this category softening?
- •A coverage endpoint that tells you what we can’t price, up front
Flip Score & webhooks
- •Our resale signal: estimated value, effective bid, discount gap
- •Webhooks push matching new lots to you - stop polling
- •The Pro deal-finder, exposed straight to your code
Pricing
Start free. Every account gets 100 free valuation calls a month (comps, sold history, trends and Flip Score), and the listing endpoints are free on top of that. When you need more, buy credits: one credit is one valuation call, and you only pay for calls that return an answer. No subscription, no monthly minimum, and credits never expire.

Let's talk
Custom volume & terms
Bulk historical archives, high call volumes, custom feeds, a data license, or an SLA. Tell us what you're building and we'll shape a plan around it.
How credits work
- 1. Get a free key Sign in, confirm your email, and create a key on the API keys page. No card.
- 2. Use your free calls
The first 100 valuation calls each month are free. Check what is left any time with
/api/v1/usageor theX-Valuation-Remainingheader. - 3. Top up when you need to
Buy a pack on the API keys page. Every key on your account can spend the credits straight away, and the
X-Credits-Remainingheader shows the balance. The largest pack works out at $1.33 per 100.
Already a GovAuctions Pro subscriber? Your account gets 250 free valuation calls a month instead of 100, at no extra cost, and keeps them if you buy credits. Create a key on the API keys page.
Need bulk or licensed data?
Not building against the API? If you want a bulk historical archive, a custom feed, or a commercial data license - for sourcing, valuation, asset recovery, or research - tell us your use case and we'll scope coverage, a sample export, and pricing around it.
See what is in the dataset and what it costs, or ask below.
Quickstart
curl https://govauctions.app/api/v1/listings?country=US&category=vehicles&limit=5 \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
Using AI tools? Point ChatGPT Actions or a codegen client at the OpenAPI spec, or add our hosted MCP server below.
Recipes
The jobs people actually use the API for. Each one runs as written once you swap in your key.
Check a lot before you bid
What did the same item sell for at other government auctions? Ask with the brand and model, and narrow to a state if you like.
curl "https://govauctions.app/api/v1/comps?q=Motorola+APX+6000&state=CA" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
Read range.median and range.confidence. scope says whether the number came from that state or fell back to national. Send the brand and model, not the full listing title: no past sale repeats every spec and condition note, so long titles miss. A miss still returns the category's own price range when the category is clear, and is never charged.
Price a whole inventory list
One item per line in a text file, one request back, one row per item. Up to 10 items per batch on a free key, 50 once you have credits.
jq -R -s '{queries: split("\n") | map(select(length > 0))}' items.txt \
| curl -s -X POST https://govauctions.app/api/v1/comps/batch \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" -d @- \
| jq -r '.data[] | [.query, (.range.median // ""), (.range.confidence // .reason)] | @tsv'
Items that come back without a range cost nothing, so you only pay for the rows that have a price. Add "state" or "country" next to "queries" to set them for the whole batch.
Find live lots near you, then score one
Search live GSA lots within a radius of a ZIP code, newest first, then ask whether one is priced below what it usually sells for.
curl "https://govauctions.app/api/v1/listings?zip=95814&radiusMiles=150&q=forklift&sort=newest" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
curl "https://govauctions.app/api/v1/flip-score?id=LOT_ID_FROM_ABOVE" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
Listings are free and don't use valuation calls. flip-score returns the estimated value, the effective bid including buyer's premium, and the discount between them. With credits, you can stop polling: register the same filter as a webhook below.
Ask Claude
No code at all: add the MCP server once, then ask in plain English. Claude picks the tools.
claude mcp add --transport http govauctions https://govauctions.app/api/mcp
# Then ask, for example:
# "What do Motorola APX 6000 radios sell for at government auctions,
# and are any live in California right now?"
With no key, Claude can search live lots and see a rough price band for the item and its category's typical range. Add a key (or, in claude.ai, add GovAuctions from the connectors directory and sign in) for the item's own sold-price range.
Endpoints
| Endpoint | What it returns | Valuation call? |
|---|---|---|
GET /listings | Live GSA lots — filter by state, category, price, keyword or ZIP radius | No |
GET /listings/{id} | One live lot by id | No |
GET /comps | Sold-price range (p25 / median / p75); add include=comps for the underlying sales | Yes — 1 |
POST /comps/batch | Up to 100 items valued in one request | Yes — 1 per item |
GET /sold | The individual archived sales behind an item: price, month, state | Yes — 1 |
GET /comps/trend | Month-by-month medians, plus the first-to-last change | Yes — 1 |
GET /flip-score | Resale signal for a live lot: estimated value, effective bid, discount | Yes — 1 |
GET /coverage | Sales held per category, and what we can never price | No |
GET /sources | Listing sources and comp markets we cover, with counts. No key needed | No |
GET /usage | Both budgets and the reset date for your key | No |
GET /export | Bulk CSV (pay as you go and above); comps exports charge one valuation call per priced query | Yes — 1 per query |
GET|POST /webhooks | Manage push subscriptions for new lots | No |
Raw listings and webhook payloads cover sanctioned federal sources (GSA Auctions) in the US. Comps, sold history and trends are our own derived aggregates and cover the full surplus market in the six comp markets (US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany and France). In Germany and France, the EU database right means we serve the price range but not the individual sales behind it.
Show your work
curl "https://govauctions.app/api/v1/comps?q=2015+Ford+F-150&include=comps" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
# Pricing a whole basket? One request, one valuation call per item:
curl -X POST https://govauctions.app/api/v1/comps/batch \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"queries":["2015 Ford F-150","forklift","Dell Latitude"]}'
Webhooks
Register an https endpoint with a filter and we POST matching new lots as they enter the feed, with new listings every 30 minutes. Every delivery is signed with HMAC-SHA256 in the X-GovAuctions-Signature header. Delivery is at-least-once, so dedupe on lot id.
curl -X POST https://govauctions.app/api/v1/webhooks \
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"url": "https://your-app.example.com/hooks/govauctions",
"filters": { "category": "vehicles", "state": "TX", "minFlipScore": 70 }
}'
The signing secret is returned once, at creation. Store it then - we cannot show it to you again.
MCP server
Works with Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and any client that accepts a remote MCP URL. Start with no key at all:
claude mcp add --transport http govauctions https://govauctions.app/api/mcp
That works as typed. With no key, search_listings and get_listing return live GSA lots (25 per page), and get_sold_comps answers with how many comparable sales we hold, the confidence, a coarse price band, and the p25 / median / p75 for the item's whole category. get_comp_coverage lists what we can and cannot price. That is enough for an agent to find out whether we have the data it needs before anyone creates an account.
Add a key when you want the p25 / median / p75 for the item itself and the rest of the tools:
claude mcp add --transport http govauctions https://govauctions.app/api/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer gak_YOUR_KEY"
Or point any other client at https://govauctions.app/api/mcp and send your key as an Authorization: Bearer header. Free keys include 100 valuation calls a month, so the key is a signup, not a paywall.
Tools
search_listings- live GSA federal-surplus lots by state, category, keyword, price, or ZIP radiusget_listing- one lot by idget_sold_comps- sold-price percentiles for an item, in US, UK, CA, AU, DE, FRget_sold_comps_batch- the same for a list of items in one call, one valuation call per itemget_sold_history- the individual sales behind that numberget_price_trend- month-by-month medians for an itemget_flip_score- resale signal for a live lotget_comp_coverage- what we can and cannot priceget_api_usage- remaining budget, so an agent can pace itself
Six markets, one key
get_sold_comps and get_price_trend take a country of US, UK, CA, AU, DE or FR, matched by item within that market so a UK median is built from UK sales rather than converted from US ones. get_sold_history covers US, UK, CA and AU: the EU database right keeps the individual sales in Germany and France off the API.
Every market is on every tier, including Free. There is no regional add-on and no separate contract, and an agent pricing a mixed international basket can do it in one batch call against one key.
Data is provided for your own application use. Redistribution or rebuilding a competing dataset is not permitted. Flip Score and Flip Margin are rough indicators, not investment advice - always inspect, factor transport, and review the listing carefully before bidding.
