WhatAreYouBuilding.AI
Free directory of indie AI, SaaS and dev products. The public MCP at https://whatareyoubuilding.ai/api/mcp lets an agent search products, communities and the leaderboard. Reads need no key. It is a product catalogue, not a registry of MCP servers.

A directory of indie products agents can query
Every product, builder and community is queryable over MCP with no key, no account and no OAuth. Paste the endpoint into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and ask who is building what, where, and who is raising.
https://whatareyoubuilding.ai/api/mcp — Streamable HTTP MCP server. One tool writes: a builder creates an agent token on their listings page, and their agent can then add a product for them. Every listing is reviewed before it appears.
What this is, and what it is not
- It is: A catalogue of real products — what independent builders are shipping, who built it, where they are, what stage they are at, and whether they are raising.
- It is: Queryable over MCP and over a plain JSON API. The same catalogue either way, and the same catalogue a person browses.
- It is: Free to read, with no key, no account and no OAuth. The write tool is the only one that needs a credential.
- It is: Moderated. Every listing is checked before it appears, and anything unclear goes to a person, so what an agent reads has been looked at.
- It is not: A registry of MCP servers. If you are looking for servers to connect an agent to, this is not that list — Smithery, PulseMCP and the official modelcontextprotocol/servers repository are.
- It is not: A launch feed. Nothing here expires, and the ranking is engagement on this directory rather than what shipped today.
- It is not: A ranking of quality. A listing means somebody built the thing and it was checked for being real.
- It is not: A catalogue of AI tools. A quarter of what is here is filed under AI; the rest is SaaS, dev tools, fintech and a dozen other categories.
Try asking
- Who is building AI tools in Israel, and which of them are raising?
- Find me indie products in dev tools, bootstrapped, with a real website.
- What are independent builders in Germany shipping right now?
- Which bootstrapped founders said they are open to investment?
- What gained the most attention on this directory last week?
- Where do independent builders actually gather, and what is the join link?
What you can ask this directory
- Who is building AI tools in Israel?
search_products { category: "AI", region: "Israel" }region and category are closed vocabularies. Call list_filters first; a value outside them matches nothing, and that is indistinguishable from an empty directory. - Which bootstrapped founders are raising right now?
search_products { funding_stage: "bootstrapped", raising_status: "raising" }raising_status has three values, not two. "undisclosed" means the builder declined to say and must never be reported as a no. - Who wants to hear from an investor?
search_products { open_to: "investment" }open_to is what the builder invited. It is consent, not a guess: a builder who disclosed nothing did not ask to be contacted. - What has this person shipped?
search_products { query: "their name" }query matches the builder name as well as the product. Every word must match. - What is rising on the directory this week?
get_leaderboard { sort: "movers" }The week that closed last Sunday, named in the week field, not the last seven days. It is attention on this directory: not revenue, not users, and nothing on it is bought. - What is the biggest thing in this category?
get_leaderboard { metric: "clicks", category: "Dev Tools" }sort defaults to score, which is the lifetime counter rather than the week. - Where do independent builders actually gather?
search_communities { region: "Israel" }A different collection from the products, and every result carries a real join link. Omit region for all of them. - What markets and categories are represented at all?
list_filters {}The counts are the fastest way to see the shape of the directory before offering somebody a filter. - Tell me everything about this one product.
get_product { id: "the id from a search result" }Returns strictly more than a search result: the builder accounts, the city, opt-in MRR. The id is the slug in the product URL, never the display name.
If you are an agent listing a product for a builder
- The MCP endpoint is https://whatareyoubuilding.ai/api/mcp. Every tool but one is open to anyone. Only submit_product needs a credential, sent as an "Authorization: Bearer wayb_..." header.
- If you do not have a token, stop and ask the builder for one. They create it at https://whatareyoubuilding.ai/mine while signed in, and it is shown once. Never invent one, and never list a product that is not theirs.
- Call list_filters first. category and region are closed vocabularies, so a value outside them is rejected rather than corrected. Both are required. Where the builder is not anywhere in particular, or would rather not say, send region "Global" — it is a real value on that list. Never guess a country.
- Call submit_product. It requires name, oneLiner, description, websiteUrl, category, region, fundingStage and builder.name. Everything else, the logo included, is optional.
- websiteUrl must be an address a reader can open. A code repository or an app store page counts. A shared document (Drive, Docs, Dropbox, Notion) is refused, and so is a free platform deploy subdomain (vercel.app, netlify.app, github.io, web.app, railway.app and the like) — that builder needs a domain of their own first. Never invent a URL to satisfy the field: stop and ask.
- Where the builder has not said, send fundingStage "undisclosed" and activelyRaising null. Do not infer either: sending false claims they told you they are not raising, which is not the same as never having been asked.
- A successful call returns an id and a status of "pending". The listing is not live, because it is checked first. Report it as submitted, never as published.
- To check on it later, call get_product with that id. Not-found means it is still in review; a record means it is live. There is no status tool, and a token cannot edit a listing once it exists.
- The limits are five submissions an hour and twenty a day per account. A product the directory already lists, matched on website host or on name, is refused with a message saying so. Do not retry a refusal under a different name.
