Run Gather research from Claude and ChatGPT
Ask a business question in Claude or ChatGPT. Gather researches the company, designs an interview guide, runs simulated interviews with your target audience on Gather's research platform, and writes a branded report you can share.
Server URL
https://synthetic.gatherhq.com/api/v1/mcp
What you get
- A report link right away. It shows live progress, then the finished report.
- A branded report: the headline answer, key findings, which option your audience chose, themes in their own words, quotes, and what to test next.
- An email with the report when it is ready.
- The full study as a project in your Gather workspace, with every interview.
Reports with 10 interviews take about 10 minutes; reports with 30 interviews (the default) take about 16 minutes.

Try it
Name the company and the decision. Add the audience if you know it.
Use Gather to research what would make B2B CMOs switch from survey tools to AI-moderated interviews. The company is Acme (acme.com).
Use Gather to find out what would make new customers of Northwind Coffee start a subscription. Run 10 interviews.
Tools
gather_report_start · Write
Starts a research report and returns its id and report link at once.
Inputs: company and question (required); website, audience, audience_type (b2b or b2c), key_questions (up to 6), options (2 to 4 to compare, used exactly as written), respondents (10 to 50, default 30)
gather_report_check · Read only
Returns progress, and when the report is done: headline, findings, option choice, themes, quotes and the report link.
Inputs: id
gather_report_list · Read only
Lists the reports you started this way, newest first, with their links.
Inputs: limit (1 to 25, optional)
When you sign in, or with an agent key, these tools also work with your own Gather workspace, one tool for each action:
gather_research_answer · Write
Answers a question about your customers from your completed studies and the files you added to Gather, with counted numbers and word-for-word quotes. Your question and the start of the answer are saved to your workspace.
Inputs: question; study_id (optional)
gather_find_quotes · Read only
Searches or browses your verbatim library: quotes from real respondents in your completed studies.
Inputs: search, study_id, limit (1 to 15), all optional
gather_list_studies · Read only
Lists your 20 newest studies with their status and ids; a search or status narrows those 20.
Inputs: search, status (draft, live, in review, completed), both optional
gather_list_personas · Read only
Lists your buyer personas and the key to ask each one.
Inputs: none
gather_list_content · Read only
Links your core research assets and the content made from your studies.
Inputs: scope (all, core, library), optional
gather_get_test_link · Read only
Returns a link to try a study's interview before it launches.
Inputs: study_id
gather_ask_persona · Write
Asks one of your buyer personas a question. Answers are simulated; a question its research does not cover is logged to the persona's research backlog.
Inputs: persona_key, question
gather_research_ideas · Write
Suggests research ideas with current signals from the web, and saves them to your workspace.
Inputs: none
gather_create_content · Write
Creates a report, blog post, ebook, slide deck or social card from a completed study.
Inputs: study_id, kind; brief (optional)
gather_design_study · Write
Designs a study with real people one question at a time in a new draft study, shares a research plan and interview guide for your approval, then builds the interview and tries to set up its audience, or says Gather's research team is finishing the targeting.
Inputs: instructions; study_id to continue a design; approve (true once you approve the plan)
gather_set_study_audience · Write
Sets who a draft study recruits, with screener questions, or says Gather's research team is finishing the targeting. A live study's audience cannot change from here.
Inputs: study_id, instructions
gather_export_responses · Write
Exports a study's conversations as a CSV behind a private link that works for 60 minutes.
Inputs: study_id; include_incomplete, start_date, end_date (optional)
gather_run_simulation · Write
Starts a simulation of how your saved personas would react to a change or idea, and waits up to about 3 minutes for the results. Needs Gather credits or a contract.
Inputs: topic (12 to 1,800 characters), audience (b2b or b2c)
gather_get_simulation · Read only
Returns the status or results of a simulation you started, waiting up to about 3 minutes while it runs.
Inputs: simulation_id
gather_launch_study · Write, cannot be undone
Launches a built study to real people. Needs Gather credits or a contract, and your explicit go-ahead.
Inputs: study_id
Accounts, workspaces and limits
- You sign in with your work email and choose one of your Gather workspaces, or create one for your company, named after its email domain.
- Reports run in that workspace as you, and each one adds a project there.
- Workspaces without Gather credits or a contract can run 3 simulated reports a month, reset on the 1st (UTC), and ask Gather 20 questions a day (UTC). With credits or a contract, there is no cap.
- Launching a study to real people with gather_launch_study needs Gather credits or a contract.
- Disconnect Gather in your app at any time.
For developers
Agents can use a Gather API key instead of signing in. Workspace admins create keys in Gather under Settings > API keys. Send the key to the same server URL:
Authorization: Bearer gk_live_...
For a client that only takes a URL, add the key to it: https://synthetic.gatherhq.com/api/v1/mcp?gatherApiKey=gk_live_.... Anyone with that URL can use the key, so keep it private. An API key gets the three report tools; the workspace tools need a sign-in or an agent key.
Agents can also sign up on their own, with an email code instead of a browser:
POST https://synthetic.gatherhq.com/api/v1/signup
{"email": "you@company.com"}
POST https://synthetic.gatherhq.com/api/v1/signup/verify
{"signup_id": "sgn_...", "code": "123456"}
The second call returns an agent key (gk_agent_...) for your workspace, creating the workspace (named after your email domain) when your company has none; that needs a work email. Codes expire in 10 minutes. If you belong to several workspaces, it lists them: call it again with the same code and a brand_id. Send the key the same way as an API key.
Support
Email mayank@gatherhq.com for help with sign-in, workspaces or a report. If it is about a report, include its link or id (it starts with rpt_).
Questions
Are these real interviews?
No. Respondents are simulated with AI to match the audience you describe, and they answer an adaptive interview guide on Gather's research platform. Results are directional: use them to sharpen a decision or decide what to test with real people, not as a survey of a market.
How long does a report take?
Reports with 10 interviews take about 10 minutes; reports with 30 interviews (the default) take about 16 minutes. You get a report link right away that shows live progress, and Gather emails you when the report is ready.
Do I need a Gather account?
You sign in with your work email. If your company has no Gather workspace yet, you can create one as you connect; it is named after your email domain. If it already has one, Gather asks its members to let you in. Creating a workspace needs a work email, not a personal or throwaway address. Agents can sign up without a browser (see For developers).
What does it cost?
Workspaces without Gather credits or a contract can run 3 simulated reports a month, reset on the 1st (UTC), and ask Gather 20 questions a day. With credits or a contract there is no cap. Studies with real people run on your workspace's credits; to get credits, see gatherhq.com.
Who can see my reports?
Reports run in the Gather workspace you choose, as you, and appear there as projects that workspace members can open. The report page itself is a private, unguessable link that is not indexed by search engines; anyone you share the link with can read it.
How do I disconnect?
Remove or disconnect Gather in your app's connector or MCP settings (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code). The assistant can no longer start or read reports, and your reports stay in your Gather workspace.
