Documentation

New — Sightseer MCP

Plan your next trip just by asking.

Connect Sightseer to Claude, ChatGPT, or whatever AI assistant you already use — and put every campground, marina, state park and roadside oddity we know about right inside the conversation.

Works With the AI Assistant You Already Use

Sightseer connects over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard these assistants use to talk to outside services.

How It Works

Step 1

Connect once

Add the Sightseer connector to your assistant and sign in with your Sightseer account.

Step 2

Just ask

Describe the trip you want in plain language. No filters, no tabs, no forms.

Step 3

Save it

Your assistant can build lists and save places straight to your Sightseer account.

Things You Can Ask

Real questions, answered from Sightseer's actual database — not guessed.

Find big rig friendly campgrounds near Asheville with 50 amp hookups.

What are the top rated campgrounds in Georgia right now?

Which states have the most attractions and state parks?

What are people actually saying in the recent reviews for this place?

Show me the TikToks and YouTube videos travelers posted about this campground.

Save those three to a new list called "Smoky Mountains, Fall 2026".

Built for Every Kind of Traveler

RVers

Ask by rig length, hookup amperage, pull-through sites, and big-rig access — the details other search tools bury.

Vanlifers

Dispersed camping, national forest land, and the quiet spots that never show up on a booking site.

Road trippers

Plan a route state by state and find what is worth stopping for between the places you already planned.

Weekend explorers

Two free days and a full tank. Ask what is within a few hours and genuinely worth the drive.

What Your Assistant Can Do

Fifteen tools, split into two groups. You approve each group when you connect.

Look things up

  • Search places in plain language, optionally near a location
  • Browse by state, type, or top rated
  • Read a full place profile — pricing, hookups, contact, coordinates
  • Read reviews, sorted by recent, helpful, highest or lowest
  • Pull in social posts from TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook
  • Count places by state, by type
  • Open your own lists, including private ones

Save things for you

  • Create a new named list
  • Save a place to any of your lists
  • Remove something you have saved
  • Write a review of a place you have stayed

These only work if you grant write access when you connect. Approve read-only and your assistant can look, but never change anything.

Connect It

You need a free Sightseer account and an assistant that supports MCP connectors.

Server URL

https://mcp.sightseer.io/mcp Copy

  1. 1
Open your assistant’s connector or integration settings and add a new MCP server.
  2. 2
Paste the URL above. There is no API key to generate and nothing to paste back.
  3. 3
A Sightseer sign-in page opens. Sign in, choose whether to allow saving as well as reading, and approve.
  4. 4
That is it — ask your first question.

Step-by-step for your assistant

Each app words it a little differently. These are the makers' own instructions.

  • Set up in Claude Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector
  • Set up in ChatGPT Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced → Developer mode
  • Set up in Gemini Settings & help → Connected apps → Custom apps
  • Set up in Copilot Copilot Studio → Tools → Add a tool → Model Context Protocol

MCP support differs from app to app, and sometimes by plan — ChatGPT currently puts custom servers behind developer mode, and Microsoft's is set up through Copilot Studio rather than the consumer Copilot app. If you don't see the option, check your assistant's own documentation above. Sightseer works with any client that speaks the standard.
