ShadowCursor

Background computer use for macOS: gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and any MCP agent its own cursor, keyboard and clipboard to operate Mac apps in background windows, several agents at once.

Documentation

Computer use, without the pause.

Until now the AI works with your mouse and your keyboard, and you wait until it is done. With ShadowCursor it has its own.

Usual computer use

  • It takes over your cursor.
  • Your typing lands in its window.
  • Its windows jump to the front.
  • You stop and wait.

With ShadowCursor

  • It has its own cursor.
  • It types with its own keyboard.
  • It works in the background.
  • You keep working.

Every agent has everything to itself.

  • Its own cursor

Every agent points and clicks with its own, in its color and with its name.
  • Its own keyboard

What an agent types arrives right in its window and nowhere else.
  • Its own clipboard

Every agent copies and pastes with its own. Nothing gets mixed up, not even between agents.
  • Its own windows

Every agent works in its windows in the background, even when others are in front.

If you can click it, it can.

ShadowCursor uses the same buttons, fields and menus you do, so there is nothing to integrate. If an app has a window, your AI can work in it, even when your own windows cover it.

  • Websites
  • Spreadsheets
  • Forms
  • Mac apps
  • Menus
  • File dialogs
  • Signatures
  • Sliders
  • Date pickers

Spreadsheets Fills a sheet you are not even looking at.

Websites Searches and reads in Safari while you write.

Mac apps Calendar, without ever coming to the front.

Moves like you. Not like a script.

The pointer moves in natural curves and types like a person. Menus, sliders and signatures work just as they do for you.

Several agents. All at once.

Claude Code and Codex work side by side, each with its own cursor. Color and name tag always show who is doing what.

Three steps. No tech skills needed.

  1. Download and open

Open ShadowCursor and click Allow when your Mac asks. That is all it needs.
  2. Connect your AI

ShadowCursor finds Claude, Codex, Cursor and VS Code on your Mac and connects them with one click.
  3. Just ask

Tell your AI what to do, like “Add the new invoices to my spreadsheet.” It works in the background while you keep working.

Questions

What is ShadowCursor?

A Mac app that gives AI agents such as Claude Code and Codex their own cursor, keyboard and clipboard. They use your apps with them in the background, every agent with its own.

How is it different from other computer use?

Usual computer use works with your pointer and keyboard and keeps pulling windows to the front, so you have to stop. With ShadowCursor every agent has its own and works in the background.

Which apps can an agent use?

Anything with a window: websites, spreadsheets, forms, Mac apps, menus, file dialogs, sliders, date pickers and signature pads. Even windows you have covered with your own.

Which agents work with it?

Claude Code, Codex and any client that speaks MCP. Several agents can work at the same time, each with its own cursor.

Does it move and type like a person?

Yes. The pointer moves in natural curves and the keyboard types at around 200 words per minute with a human rhythm, so websites react to it the way they react to you.

Does my screen leave my Mac?

ShadowCursor runs locally. An agent only sees the windows it works in, and only the agent you connected sees them.

What do I need?

macOS 15 Sequoia or later. A Windows version for Windows 10 and 11 is in beta.
