The SaveDock video downloader MCP server is a free, hosted (remote) Model Context Protocol server. Its URL is https://mcp.savedock.pro/mcp, the transport is Streamable HTTP, and no API key or account is needed. It is a single MCP video downloader for AI agents, so you do not need one server per site. The agent calls the same tool for every platform, and the result is a temporary link the user opens in a browser. The file itself never enters the conversation. Nothing is installed on your machine: yt-dlp and ffmpeg run on our side and are kept up to date.

Download Instagram Videos with MCP

Public Reels and video posts can be saved without an Instagram account. As an Instagram video downloader MCP, the server needs only the link: paste it into your AI chat, ask for the video, and the agent does the rest.

Vertical Reels keep their original portrait size, with no cropping. For sound alone, the agent can request MP3, M4A, Opus or WAV, which suits a voice-over or an original audio clip. Instagram sometimes limits anonymous access at busy times. When that happens the error is marked as retryable, so the agent can try again a little later.

Instagram limitations

• Private accounts are refused, because only public posts can be read.

Download TikTok Videos with MCP

Most TikTok links are short links copied from the app, so this TikTok video downloader MCP tool accepts those as well as full video URLs. No TikTok account is needed.

The server adds no watermark or branding of its own, and saves the video as an MP4. If you only want the sound, the agent can ask for MP3 at 128 or 192 kbps, M4A, Opus or WAV. Download YouTube Videos with MCP

Regular videos and Shorts both work, from 144p up to 4K when the upload has it. This YouTube video downloader MCP tool runs yt-dlp and ffmpeg on our server, so your agent does not need either one installed.

Above 720p YouTube serves picture and sound separately, and the server merges them for you. The agent can request an exact height such as 1080, or audio such as MP3 at up to 320 kbps, M4A, Opus or WAV. MP3 bitrates are capped to the source, so a low-quality upload is not padded into a bigger file. Some 4K streams cannot fit in MP4 and are saved as MKV or WebM. Pick 1080p if you need a standard MP4.

YouTube limitations

• Playlists are refused over MCP: send one video link at a time, or use the playlist downloader on the website.
• Live streams and private, members-only or age-restricted videos are refused.
• The free tier stops at 60 minutes and 500 MB, so a long 4K video can be too large.

Download Twitter Videos with MCP

Both x.com and twitter.com links work with this Twitter video downloader MCP tool, which saves the video from a public post. You do not need an X account or a developer token.

X stores each video at several sizes, up to 720p or 1080p depending on the upload. get_video_info lists them with their file sizes, so the agent can match the size to what you need. Audio-only requests are useful for saving a clip of a speech or interview as MP3 or M4A.

The video is private. Only public videos can be downloaded.

The video is for channel members only.

age_restricted

The video is age-restricted, so it needs a signed-in account.

geo_blocked

The video is not available in the region our server runs in.

unavailable

The video was removed, or the link holds no video.

playlist_not_supported

The link is a playlist. Send the link of one video.

too_long

The video is longer than the 60-minute free limit.

too_large

The file is over the 500 MB limit. Try a lower quality.

live_stream

The stream is still live. Try again once the replay is published.

platform_rate_limited

The platform is limiting requests. This one is retryable, so try again in a minute.

When a free limit is reached, the error includes a retry_after value that tells the agent when to try again.

Privacy and safety

• Download records store a hash of your IP address, not the address itself.
• The MCP server's call log holds no video URLs, keys or IP addresses.
• Download links are signed and expire, and job numbers cannot be guessed to reach a file.
• Only links from the six supported sites are accepted, and quality takes a fixed set of values, so a prompt cannot pass raw yt-dlp options to the server.

Hosted MCP server vs running a yt-dlp MCP server yourself

Most video downloader MCP servers are open-source projects on GitHub or PyPI that wrap yt-dlp. They work, but you install and run them yourself, and many cover one platform. SaveDock is the hosted alternative to a self-hosted server: the server, yt-dlp and ffmpeg already run on our side.

• Kept current for you. Video sites change often and yt-dlp must be updated to keep up. We handle that, so your agent does not break.

Claude calls download_video and replies with a temporary link. The same steps work for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and X.

Does it work with ChatGPT?

Yes, where ChatGPT allows custom remote MCP servers (developer mode connectors). Add the server URL there the same way as in Claude. If your ChatGPT plan does not offer connectors, use the website directly instead.

Is there a yt-dlp MCP server I do not have to run myself?

Yes. This server runs yt-dlp and ffmpeg on our side, so you only add a URL. Local servers such as kevinwatt/yt-dlp-mcp need Node or Python plus yt-dlp and ffmpeg on your machine, but they can save straight to your Downloads folder and some include transcript tools.

Can my agent choose video quality?

Yes. Call get_video_info(url) first to see available qualities, then pass the quality value to download_video().

Can my agent download a whole playlist?

Not over MCP. Each call takes the link of one video, and playlist links return a playlist_not_supported error. To save a playlist, use the playlist downloader on the website, or give your agent the video links one at a time.

Can my agent download private videos or Stories?

No. Private accounts, friends-only videos, private groups and Instagram Stories need a login, and this server never asks for your password or cookies. The tool returns an error instead.

Can the agent get a YouTube transcript or subtitles?

Not yet. Today the tools download video and audio and read metadata (title, uploader, duration, available qualities). A subtitle and transcript tool is planned for December 2026.

What happens if I hit the rate limit?

The tool returns an error with a retry_after value telling the agent when it can try again. Your agent will communicate this to you.

Is the download link permanent?

No. Files are deleted automatically after 6 hours and the link expires sooner, so save the file before then.

Is it legal to download videos with an MCP server?

It depends on the video, where you live and how you use the file. Saving your own content or content you have permission to save is generally fine. Downloading or reposting copyrighted work without permission may not be, and each platform has its own terms. You are responsible for what you download.
