MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard that lets AI assistants use external tools. Add the URL below to Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Cursor or any MCP client and, when you ask about hotels, it uses real OKstays data: the Comfort Score (0-10, AI-scored on 67 comfort signals, no paid placements), strengths and caveats per hotel, and indicative nightly prices. In Claude, results also show as hotel cards: photo, Comfort Score, price and a link to the hotel's page.

How to connect

Claude (web / desktop)

  1. Customize → Add → Add custom connector
  2. Name it OKstays and paste the URL above as the MCP server URL
  3. Authentication: No sign-in (Claude detects it), then Connect and allow the tools (all read-only)
  4. Ask: “find me a great hotel in Lisbon under $150”

Works on every Claude plan, including Free (one custom connector).

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http okstays https://okstays.com/api/mcp

ChatGPT

  1. On the web, open Connectors → Add → Add custom MCP server
  2. Name it OKstays, paste the URL above, choose No authentication, create it, then Connect
  3. In a chat, pick OKstays (or type @OKstays). Otherwise ChatGPT may answer with its built-in travel apps.

Works on every ChatGPT plan, including Free.

Grok

  1. On grok.com, click + → Add Connector → Custom
  2. Name it OKstays and paste the URL above. That's it: Grok connects on its own.

Works on every Grok plan, including Free. On Grok Business, an admin adds it in console.x.ai → Grok Business → Connectors → Add Connector → Other.

Cursor / other MCP clients

Add an MCP server with transport http (streamable HTTP) and the URL above. The server is stateless JSON-RPC 2.0.

What your assistant can do

ToolWhat it returns
search_hotelsUp to 10 hotels for a city, ranked by the OKstays Comfort Score (only hotels that pass the five must-haves: clean, comfy bed, shower, bug-free, safe area). Each comes with strengths, caveats, indicative price per night in USD and a link to its page. Options: travel style, required strengths, minimum score, maximum price, neighbourhood, distance from a point of interest, and sorting by comfort, price, value or distance.
get_city_overviewA snapshot of a destination: hotels scored, average Comfort Score, median price, what its hotels do best and worst, the best neighbourhoods and which travel styles it suits. A good first question for any trip.
get_hotelEverything about one hotel: Comfort Score breakdown, every filter score with its explanation, caveats, price, and a link to its OKstays page where you can book.
compare_hotelsTwo to four hotels side by side: score breakdown, price, strengths, caveats, the filters where they differ most, and a verdict (best comfort, cheapest, best value).
find_similar_hotelsHotels in the same city that score most like a given one, with the price difference. Ask for "like this, but cheaper".
plan_tripHotels for a trip with several stops, in order (for example Lisbon 4 nights, Porto 3, Madrid 5): the best match for each stop, alternatives, the dates of each stay and an indicative total. Each hotel link opens its OKstays page with that stop's dates, so Book Now books those nights.
list_citiesThe destinations OKstays covers, with hotel counts. Can be limited to one country.
get_filtersAll filter ids and descriptions usable in search_hotels, grouped by category, plus the travel styles (personas).

  • “Hotels in Porto under $200 with the highest comfort score
  • “What is Barcelona like for hotels? Which areas are best?
  • “Best-value hotels within 2 km of the Sagrada Família
  • “Compare the top three hotels you found and tell me which to book
  • “Is there something like this hotel, but cheaper?
  • “What do guests say about the beds and noise at the top result?
  • “Which cities does OKstays cover in Spain?
  • “Plan the hotels for 10 days in Italy: Rome 4 nights, Florence 3, Milan 3, from 12 May

For developers

Check the server from a terminal:

curl -s https://okstays.com/api/mcp -H 'content-type: application/json' -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'

Fair use

Free for trip research: 60 requests/minute, 2,000/day and 400 hotel-detail or comparison requests/day per IP address, with a shared daily capacity for everyone. It's deliberately not a bulk-export API, and answers for popular destinations are cached for a few minutes. Prices are indicative; the hotel page shows the live price for your dates. Link back to the okstays.com hotel pages when you publish anything based on the data.
