Instagram MCP server
Give your agent Instagram. One URL, every endpoint as a tool. https://mcp.instadata.dev is a hosted, remote MCP server over streamable HTTP. Point Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or any MCP client at it and the model can read public Instagram profiles, posts, reels, transcripts, comments, hashtags, places, ads and collaborations. No Instagram login. No Meta app. Nothing to run.
Connect in one line.
claude mcp add --transport http instadata https://mcp.instadata.dev
Or add it to any client config:
{
"mcpServers": {
"instadata": {
"url": "https://mcp.instadata.dev"
}
}
}
Clients that support OAuth 2.1 with PKCE sign you in on first use. No key to paste. Clients that only take headers use a bearer key from API keys:
{
"mcpServers": {
"instadata": {
"url": "https://mcp.instadata.dev",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ik_live_..."
}
}
}
}
Pick your client.
| Client | Auth | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Claude (claude.ai, Desktop, Claude Code) | OAuth or key | Claude setup |
| Cursor | One-click install or key | Cursor setup |
| ChatGPT (developer-mode connectors) | OAuth | ChatGPT setup |
| Windsurf, VS Code, Gemini CLI, OpenAI Agents SDK | URL + key | MCP server docs |
What the tools do.
Capability tools cover the common reads. list_endpoints is free and calls nothing upstream. call_endpoint runs any of the 28 endpoints by path. Every tool description carries its parameters, unit and price, so the model picks the call without reading docs.
9 families, 28 endpoints: profiles · posts · reels · transcripts · comments · hashtags · places · ads · collaborations. Browse endpoints
get_profile Profile, page or channel record: follower and subscriber counts, bio, and totals
get_channel_posts Recent posts and reels for a handle
get_transcript Spoken words of a reel
get_summary Short written summary of a reel
search_hashtag Posts for a hashtag
download_media Media files for a post
list_endpoints Free. Lists every endpoint on the sheet. Calls nothing upstream
call_endpoint Runs any of the 28 endpoints by path
Built for agents, not dashboards.
- Same record An MCP tool call returns the same record as the REST endpoint. Prototype in chat, ship in code.
- Small results fields= trims output. format=text returns a bare transcript for prompts.
- Failed calls Errors, timeouts, and upstream failures are never charged. Empty results, including private, deleted, or not-found, are free up to 25 a day per account; after that an empty result costs one credit.
- Logged Every call appears in the dashboard logs with its request id.
- One balance MCP and REST draw from the same credits.
Try these prompts.
- Reels Pull @nasa's last 12 reels and summarize what each one says.
- Collabs Who has @nasa collaborated with recently? Rank by engagement.
- Comments Read the comments on this reel and tell me the top three complaints.
Pricing.
$5 per 1,000 credits. 25 free credits on signup, no card. Most reads are 1 credit. Transcripts are 1 credit for the reel + 20 per started minute. See pricing
Questions.
Is this an official Instagram or Meta MCP server?
No. Instadata is an independent public-data API, not affiliated with Meta. It reads public content only.
Do I need an Instagram account or Meta developer app?
No. No Instagram login, no Meta app review, no tokens to refresh.
Which MCP transport does it use?
Streamable HTTP. It is a remote server; nothing installs locally.
OAuth or API key?
OAuth where the client supports it, so no key is needed. A bearer key (ik_live_...) for clients that only take headers.
How are tool calls billed?
As normal usage from your credit balance. list_endpoints is free. Errors, timeouts, and upstream failures are never charged. Empty results are free up to 25 a day per account; after that an empty result costs one credit.
Can I use it without MCP?
Yes. The same endpoints are plain REST at https://api.instadata.dev. Function calling without MCP is documented at /docs/mcp-server/.
