Documentation

Connect Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, ChatGPT or Claude.ai to Grandranker over MCP.

Grandranker runs an MCP server, so an AI agent can research keywords, write and publish articles, and read your rankings and AI visibility for you. This page has the copy-paste setup for each client and the full tool list.

  • MCP endpoint: https://app.grandranker.com/mcp/grandranker
  • Auth: ChatGPT and Claude.ai connectors sign in with your Grandranker account (OAuth). Other clients send Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_TOKEN. Create a token at Settings → API Tokens (https://app.grandranker.com/settings/api-tokens). Steps: REST API & Tokens.
  • Plain-text docs for agents: every docs page is also Markdown at its URL + .md (for example /docs/agents.md). The index is /llms.txt, the full text is /llms-full.txt.

Free tools (no account)

No account or token needed. Endpoint: https://grandranker.com/mcp/free

  • check_ai_crawler_readiness (url): can GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and other AI crawlers read the site? Checks robots.txt, llms.txt, schema, server rendering and speed.
  • validate_llms_txt (url or content): checks an llms.txt file against the spec.
  • check_ai_citations (domain, 1 to 5 questions): do ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini cite the domain for those questions?

Limits per IP: crawler 10 per minute, llms.txt 20 per minute, AI citations 5 per 30 minutes.

Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http grandranker-free https://grandranker.com/mcp/free

Cursor: add this to .cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "grandranker-free": {
      "url": "https://grandranker.com/mcp/free"
    }
  }
}

For the full product (articles, rankings, publishing), use the main endpoint above with an API token.

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal, with your token in place of YOUR_API_TOKEN:

claude mcp add --transport http grandranker https://app.grandranker.com/mcp/grandranker --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_TOKEN"

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code to check that grandranker is connected.

Cursor

Add this to .cursor/mcp.json in your project (or ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "grandranker": {
      "url": "https://app.grandranker.com/mcp/grandranker",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}

Open Cursor Settings → MCP and check that grandranker shows a green dot.

VS Code

Add this to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace. VS Code asks for the token the first time and stores it securely:

{
  "inputs": [
    { "type": "promptString", "id": "grandranker-token", "description": "Grandranker API token", "password": true }
  ],
  "servers": {
    "grandranker": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://app.grandranker.com/mcp/grandranker",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:grandranker-token}" }
    }
  }
}

Open Copilot Chat in Agent mode and pick the Grandranker tools from the tools menu.

ChatGPT (developer mode)

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Go back to Apps & Connectors and click Create.
  3. Name it Grandranker and paste https://app.grandranker.com/mcp/grandranker as the MCP server URL.
  4. Pick OAuth as the authentication and click Create.
  5. Sign in with your Grandranker account when asked.
  6. In a new chat, pick Developer mode from the + menu and turn on the Grandranker connector.
