What is the Azri Connector?

The Azri Connector is a remote MCP server for Azri, the flashcard app for iPhone and iPad. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI apps use outside tools. The server lives at https://mcp.azri.app/v1/mcp and uses MCP’s Streamable HTTP transport, so there’s nothing to install on your computer.

In Claude, you add Azri from Claude’s Connectors Directory (or paste that URL as a custom connector); in ChatGPT and other AI apps, you paste that URL. Either way, you sign in with OAuth: a browser page asks you to continue with Apple and choose which access to grant. There’s no API key. Your AI can then list your decks, create decks, read and search your cards, and add new cards. It can’t edit or delete anything already in Azri.

Every tool needs an active Azri Pro subscription. Setup is written up for Claude (Claude Desktop and claude.ai) and ChatGPT (as a custom MCP server on its Plugins page). For other AI apps that can add a remote MCP server by URL, see the Other AI apps tab below.

No API key. Claude lists Azri in its Connectors Directory, and ChatGPT and other AI apps that can add a remote MCP server take one URL.

Install Azri & upgrade to Pro

Free on the App Store. The Azri Connector is a Pro feature — try it free for seven days with the annual plan.

02

Find your app’s connector settings

Look for Connectors, MCP servers, Custom integrations, or Tools in your AI client’s settings.

03

Add an HTTP MCP server

Add a new HTTP-transport MCP server with the URL below. Azri implements the public MCP spec — no proprietary extensions.

04

Complete the OAuth flow

The client opens a browser tab. Sign in with Apple, approve the scopes, and you’re connected.

Tools and limits.

Five tools, each tied to an OAuth scope. On the sign-in page you can untick any scope you don’t want to grant. A tool that needs it then returns an error instead.

ToolWhat it does
azri_list_decks Needs decks:readLists your decks, most recently changed first, with each deck’s card count and how many cards are due. Can filter by part of a deck name.
azri_create_deck Needs decks:writeCreates a deck. If you already have a deck with that name, it returns that deck instead of making a second one.
azri_list_cards Needs cards:readLists the cards in one deck, newest first, up to 200 at a time.
azri_search_cards Needs cards:readFinds cards whose front or back contains a word or phrase, in one deck or across all of them. Returns up to 50 matches.
azri_create_cards Needs cards:write and decks:readAdds 1 to 50 cards to a deck, picked by name or id, with optional linked reverse cards. It only adds cards; it never edits or deletes them.

Limits: up to 50 cards per save, and a reverse card counts as two. Fronts can be up to 2,000 characters and backs up to 5,000. A card whose front matches one already in that deck is skipped, unless the AI asks to add it anyway. Search checks at most 1,000 cards per request. No tool can edit or delete existing cards or decks. Without an active Pro subscription, every tool returns an error that says so.

Looking for an Anki MCP server?

Most Anki MCP servers run on your own computer with Anki Desktop, either through the AnkiConnect add-on or as an Anki add-on of their own. AnkiConnect, for example, gives other programs a local HTTP API at 127.0.0.1:8765 by default, and its documentation says to keep Anki running while they use it. So your AI can reach your cards only while Anki is open on that computer. If you review in Anki on a computer, that setup fits well.

The Azri Connector runs on Azri’s servers instead, so nothing has to be open on a computer. Cards your AI adds sync to Azri on your iPhone and iPad. To bring your Anki decks along, export them from Anki as.apkg files and import them into Azri first. Imported decks sync like any other, so your AI can then search them and add cards to them. Each search checks at most 1,000 cards, so in a bigger library it can miss a card you have. See Tools and limits.

Common questions.

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol — an open standard from Anthropic that lets AI assistants connect to outside tools in a structured way. Think of it as USB-C for AI: one connector, many apps. Azri shows up inside your AI client as five tools (see Tools and limits) that the model calls when you ask.

Do I need to pay?

Azri is free to install. The Azri Connector itself is a Pro feature because it runs on Azri’s servers and works through cloud sync. Pro is $0.99 / week or $19.99 / year, and the annual plan has a 7-day free trial. You can use Azri without Pro forever. Pro adds the Azri Connector, cloud sync and the rest of the Pro features.

What data does my AI client see?

Only what it asks for. When you ask Claude to save cards, it sees the cards it just wrote. When you ask it to search a deck, it sees matching cards only. Whatever a tool returns becomes part of your chat, so your AI provider, such as Anthropic or OpenAI, handles it under its own privacy terms, like the rest of the conversation. The Azri Connector section of the privacy policy has the details.

How do I disconnect?

From inside your AI client’s settings, open the Azri connector and choose Disconnect or Remove. If the app tells Azri to revoke its tokens, access ends right away. If it doesn’t, its access token stops working within an hour and its refresh token within 90 days. Existing cards stay in your library.

Creating flashcards has never been easier.

Hand Claude or ChatGPT your notes, a PDF, a transcript — anything. Ask for cards. They land in your deck.
