What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes. In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours, and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store. In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects. You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the API section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: JavaScript/TypeScript (npm install apify-client) and Python (pip install apify-client).

What is the internet actually saying about this? Ask once, get Reddit, X, Threads, LinkedIn, news, and search interest.

Your agent shouldn't need six scrapers and six integrations to answer one question about a brand. Eight tools behind one MCP endpoint, normalized JSON, and you only pay for what comes back.

Built by The Mine Works.

Find out what the internet is saying about a brand

Ask your agent: "What are people saying about Notion this week, and is interest rising?"

// tools/call β†’ brand_pulse_report
{ "topic": "Notion", "geo": "US" }

Returns one object with a reddit, x, threads, linkedin, news, and search_interest section, each either real data or an explicit {found: false, reason} so your agent knows what it's missing rather than guessing.

Search news coverage of a topic by country

// tools/call β†’ news_search
{ "query": "lab grown diamonds", "topic": "BUSINESS", "country": "US", "max_results": 50 }

Pull the latest posts on X for a keyword or handle

// tools/call β†’ search_x
{ "query": "product launch", "filter": "latest", "max_tweets": 50 }

Get the transcript of a YouTube video

// tools/call β†’ youtube_transcript

What does the Social Research MCP cost

No result, no charge. Ever.

  • Searches that return nothing cost nothing.
  • Identical repeat calls within 60 seconds are free.
  • The pulse report is priced by what it actually delivered, $0.25 complete, $0.10 partial, or $0.025 per source.
  • Slow sources are dropped after 45 seconds so the report stays fast; you pay the lower tier rather than waiting.

Apify platform usage is billed by Apify on top, as with any Standby actor.

What this social research MCP does not cover

  • Reddit is fetched without OAuth credentials, so heavy bursts can hit Reddit's rate limits and return short. You are not charged when that happens.
  • YouTube transcripts depend on the video having captions; videos without them return a not-found, unbilled.
  • X (Twitter) is the slowest source and can take 30-90s on broad queries.
  • Nothing here is historical archive data, these are live reads of what is public right now.
