What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes. In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours, and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store. In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects. You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the API section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: JavaScript/TypeScript (npm install apify-client) and Python (pip install apify-client).

Build a full prospect pack for one company

Ask your agent: "Build me a prospect pack for Notion."

// tools/call β†’ prospect_dossier
{ "company": "Notion", "domain": "notion.so", "job_titles": ["marketing"] }

Returns people, site_contacts, email_verification and reputation in one object. Every email the discovery sections surface gets a live SMTP verdict before you ever send to it.

Find local businesses by category and city

// tools/call β†’ yellowpages_search
{ "search_term": "plumbers", "location": "Chicago, IL", "max_results": 100 }

What does the Lead Generation MCP cost

No result, no charge. Ever. A company with no findable people returns an empty, unbilled answer. maps_leads never bills a lead without a working email.

Identical repeat calls within 60 seconds are free. Apify platform usage is billed by Apify on top, as with any Standby actor.

What this lead generation MCP does not cover

  • find_leads quality depends on the company's web presence. Domains beat bare names. Small companies with thin sites return fewer people, unbilled where nothing is found.
  • Email verification cannot see past catch-all servers. A catch-all domain returns "catch-all", not a false "valid".
  • trustpilot_lookup and yellowpages_search need US residential proxy upstream; expect 20-45s. Yellow Pages runs a real browser because Cloudflare blocks every HTTP client on that domain, so it is the slower of the two.
  • This is public data for outreach. Nothing here comes from private databases.
