1. Connect the accounts you want to use

Connect your social accounts in Influence first. Then follow the ChatGPT connection guide. Influence requests optional access renewal alongside the tool permissions you choose. After entering the MCP URL for a new custom connection, open “Advanced OAuth settings”, set “Base scopes” to offline_access and keep the discovered DCR and default permissions. Create the connection, then sign in to Influence through OAuth, review the permissions and select “Stay connected for up to 30 days” to allow renewal. Without this permission, access lasts five minutes and does not renew automatically. Then select “Allow access”. The connection uses your workspace and the permissions you approve. Keep social passwords and access keys out of your prompts. If ChatGPT asks you to reconnect for a tool, review the requested permissions in Influence and allow only those you intend to use.

2. Give ChatGPT a clear brief

Name the audience, the message, the account and the action you want readers to take. Ask for a saved draft before asking to publish. For several destinations, review each version separately: a good LinkedIn post may need different wording on another channel. ChatGPT should ask you to choose when account names are ambiguous. When a destination is required, ask ChatGPT to list the available boards, channels or communities, then choose from the returned options. If you use Influence IQ, create a plan first, then ask for revisions or image ideas for that saved plan. Generation and revisions use workspace credits.

Use saved brand context and Influence IQ

Ask Influence to use your saved brand facts and guidelines, read an AI plan or generate and revise a campaign. Influence IQ requests use your workspace credits. For AI images, check the quoted estimated cost and maximum credit reservation before starting. Generation does not approve publishing: save the chosen composition as a draft, then review it. Ready generated images use the same visual review and approval flow. For wording changes, tell the assistant what to replace and the exact new wording, then ask it to show the saved text afterward. Check that text against your request; a completed generation does not prove the wording changed.

3. Review, then reply “approved”

Check the exact text, destination accounts, platform settings and publishing time shown in the review. For a text post, reply with the exact word approved after that review. Approval covers that version and action. If you change the text, accounts or time, request a new review before approving again. Complete any additional confirmation ChatGPT shows.

4. Review images and videos

Create text posts, image galleries and videos for your connected accounts. Use each account’s posting settings for Stories, Reels, articles and other supported formats. Upload your images and videos in Influence, then ask your assistant to use them. Review the attached media in Influence and approve the exact post before publishing or scheduling it. Review social posts with images inside chat when the Influence review appears in a compatible client. Inspect the actual image, exact text, accounts, settings and time, then choose Approve. If the review is unavailable, use the signed-in Influence review link. WhatsApp visual messages always use signed-in Influence review. A reply saying approved does not replace visual review. An image attached to a ChatGPT conversation is not automatically uploaded to Influence. Where supported in ChatGPT’s built-in browser, choose Discuss in ChatGPT to annotate the review’s text. Add a comment and choose whether to send it to ChatGPT. Discussing a review does not approve, edit or publish it.

5. Check the publishing result

Ask ChatGPT for the saved post’s status. A queued or scheduled post has not been published yet; check each destination’s result and published link when available. If a send needs review or its outcome is unclear, inspect that result before trying again. Repeating the publish request can create a duplicate.

6. Check what the insights cover

Ask separately for available account and post insights. Availability depends on the connected provider and the permissions you granted; results can include posts created outside Influence when the provider returns them. Account summaries, date-range results and individual post metrics cover different things. Check which account, dates or post each result covers; for Slack, also check the channel. Ask when the last successful check ran and how many posts it returned. That count covers the check, not the account’s total. A refresh request queues a new check; it does not mean the check has finished. Pending, failed or missing results do not mean zero posts, and a missing metric is not a measured zero. Readings for Slack, Mattermost and Microsoft Teams cover the selected channel.

Other ways to set up Influence

For Codex, use the scoped-key instructions in Influence Settings. You can also download the optional Influence skill or the plugin package. These files do not grant access; connect your account separately. In a browser, use the custom MCP connection above. The optional plugin ZIP is for supported local clients, including ChatGPT desktop and Codex CLI.

Try a workflow in ChatGPT

Connect Influence, copy a prompt and replace the parts in square brackets. These examples run only when you send them in ChatGPT.

Search saved brand guidance, recent campaigns and plans, and saved social Insights with links to the original Influence sources. Research reads existing information; it does not browse websites, refresh Insights or change drafts.

Draft with a saved image

Use Influence to draft a post about [topic] for a connected account I choose. Show ready JPEG or PNG images from my Influence library and let me select one. Save the draft with one image and show its visual review inside chat when supported, or give me the Influence review link. Do not publish.

Generate an image with a quote

For my saved Influence plan [plan name], suggest one image. Ask before spending IQ credits on image ideas. Show the image quote's estimated and maximum IQ credits and expiry. Ask me to agree before starting. When ready, prepare a draft and show its visual review inside chat when supported, or give me the Influence review link. Do not publish.

Review, publish or schedule

Use Influence to prepare one post about [topic] for an account I choose. Ask whether to publish now or schedule for [date] at [time] in [time zone]. Show exact content, account, settings and timing. Wait for my fresh approved reply after a text review. For images, use visual approval inside chat when supported, or the signed-in Influence review.

Learn from available Insights

Read available Influence Insights for [account] and posts from [start date] to [end date]. Summarize what the available metrics show, when they were checked and any missing data. Do not invent totals or refresh readings unless I ask.

Find your saved sources

Search my saved Influence brand guidance, recent drafts and plans, and saved social Insights for [topic]. Cite the original Influence sources. Use only available data; do not generate content, refresh Insights, edit a draft or publish.

Reuse a Space or team brief

Help turn this brief for [business] into a campaign for [goal]. Check my connected Influence workspace and ask which accounts to use. Compare the brief with saved brand guidance and flag differences. Write a reusable brief I can share with my team. Ask before using IQ credits and keep posts as drafts.

Keep briefs and prompts together in a ChatGPT Space, then use a conversation where Influence is connected. Each person authorizes their own workspace. Sharing a prompt does not share account access or approve posts.

Ask your Dot to create a recurring read-only campaign brief, then check the task in ChatGPT Scheduled. Keep it to saved Influence information, without creating drafts, publishing, changing schedules, refreshing Insights or spending IQ credits. Event-driven updates remain off.

Prefer to publish later?

Choose a clear date, time and time zone, then approve a scheduled post using the same review workflow.
