Portable CSV tools
Your client sends CSV text you choose to share. The tools return a preview or transformed CSV text, which your client can save using its own file permissions. Connecting MCP does not give this service access to your files, folders, or URLs.
Inspect shows row, column, and cell counts with up to 20 preview rows. Filter keeps rows whose selected cell exactly matches your text. Sort orders literal text in a column and preserves the order of equal values. Edit changes existing cells by zero-based row and column positions, including the header row.
Input and output are limited to 256 KiB of UTF-8 CSV, 50,000 cells, and 200 columns. One edit request can change up to 1,000 cells. Choose a comma, tab, semicolon, or pipe delimiter explicitly. Values remain text; these tools do not calculate spreadsheet formulas.
Cursor setup
Add this entry to your Cursor MCP configuration. Your client controls which tools it may use:
{
"mcpServers": {
"csv": {
"url": "https://csvfile.tools/api/csv/mcp"
}
}
}
The portable endpoint uses Streamable HTTP and requires no account or API key. Other clients need support for remote MCP over Streamable HTTP. Tool discovery alone does not verify a complete editing and saving workflow.
Install CSV File Tools from Cursor Directory or use the configuration above.
For another client’s connection details, see CSV File Tools on Glama or CSV File Tools on Awesome MCP Servers.
Example request: “Inspect the CSV text I provide, keep rows where Status is exactly Active, sort Name ascending, and show me the result before saving a new file.” Your client controls whether it reads or writes local files.
Slackbot setup
Use CSV File Tools in a workspace with Slackbot AI access. No separate CSV account or API key is required.
- Add CSV File Tools to Slack, choose your workspace, and review the requested permission before allowing installation.
- Open Slackbot and select the CSV File Tools connector.
- Paste a small CSV table and ask Slackbot to inspect it, keep matching rows, sort a column, or change selected cells. Review the returned CSV text before using it.
Installation connects CSV File Tools to Slack’s AI features. It requests no channel history, file access, or message-posting permissions. Slackbot access depends on your workspace’s plan and available allowance; installing this app does not unlock paid Slack features.
The same processing limits above apply. CSV text is sent to our server for each tool call and is not stored by this endpoint. Results return as text without changing Slack files. Slack handles conversations and tool results under its own policies, and Slackbot can misunderstand a request, so check the output. For installation or setup help, use CSV File Tools support. Remove the app in Slack to uninstall it.
Remote processing
CSV text and requested edits are sent to CSV File Tools for processing on our server. This workflow does not keep processing on your device. The service processes each request in memory and does not store CSV contents or fetch files. Your AI client has its own data handling and save permissions. Read our privacy policy before sharing private data.
Separate governed-data connector
CSV Viewer also has a separate connector being prepared for profiling and cleaning tables imported to Loam. It uses a different resource:
https://csvfile.tools/api/mcp
Login with Loam authorizes the tables this connector can access. Loam checks current permissions on each operation. Saving a reviewed cleaning plan creates a new view and preserves the source. This connector has its own OAuth audience, consent identity, and closed tool list; it does not grant access to local files.
Production verification is pending. This page does not claim an Anthropic listing, approval, or live governed connector availability. CSV File Tools is operated by Shipit Software LTD.
For setup or access problems, use CSV File Tools support.
