Connect AI tools to your organization with MCP
The MCP integration lets AI assistants — Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Desktop, and Cursor — connect directly to your upcoach organization. Once connected, they can build programs, post to your spaces, pull progress reports, and look up participant data through natural conversation.
You connect once, authorize access, and the AI can use the tools listed under Available tools on your behalf.
Works with any MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth (streamable HTTP).
Before you begin
- Only an organization Owner, Admin or Implementation Admin can connect. Program-level roles, such as a Program Admin or Program Facilitator, see “The upcoach connector needs an organization Owner, Admin or Implementation Admin. Ask one of them to connect it, or to give you one of these roles in Admin Area > Users.” on the authorization page, and nothing is connected
- You need an account with at least one supported AI tool (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Desktop, or Cursor)
Find your connection details
- Open Admin Area > Integrations > MCP from the sidebar
The page shows two values you’ll need during setup:
- Server Name — your organization’s MCP server identifier (formatted as “upcoach MCP - Your Organization Name”)
- Server URL — the endpoint your AI tool connects to
Click Copy next to either value to copy it to your clipboard.
Use your workspace’s own URL, https://<your-workspace>.upcoach.com/s/mcp/admin (copy it from Admin Area > Integrations > MCP).
If an AI tool is connected to
https://v3.upcoach.com/s/mcp/admininstead, it opens the one workspace where you’re an admin. If you’re an admin of several workspaces, the AI tool shows each workspace’s own URL so you can connect with the one you want.
Connect Claude
Custom connectors work on every Claude plan, including Free, where you can add one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an organization Owner adds it under Organization settings > Connectors; members then open Customize > Connectors and click Connect next to upcoach.
- In Claude, open Customize and select Connectors
- Click + Add, then Add custom connector. Enter “upcoach” as the name, paste your MCP server URL, and click Add
- A browser window will open showing the upcoach authorization page. Click Authorize to grant Claude access to your organization
- Your connector is ready. In any conversation, Claude can now create spaces, check progress reports, and design programs for your organization
Connect ChatGPT
Custom MCP connections in ChatGPT are available on Business, Enterprise, and Edu (ChatGPT on the web), where a workspace admin or owner adds and publishes them; on Enterprise and Edu, admins can also let members connect them. On Pro, you can connect with read-only access, so tools that create or change things won’t run.
- In ChatGPT on the web, go to Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server
- Enter “upcoach” as the name, paste your MCP server URL under Connection, and choose OAuth for authentication
- Review the risk warning, select I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin
- A browser window will open showing the upcoach authorization page. Click Authorize to grant access to your organization
Connect Claude Desktop
Claude Desktop uses the same connectors as your Claude account. If you already added upcoach on claude.ai, it’s ready in Claude Desktop when you sign in with the same account. Otherwise, add it in Claude Desktop with the same steps as in Connect Claude: Customize > Connectors, then + Add > Add custom connector.
Connect Cursor
-
Create or open
~/.cursor/mcp.jsonto connect upcoach in all your projects, or.cursor/mcp.jsonin a project to connect it there only -
Add upcoach under
mcpServers, with your MCP server URL, and save the file:{ "mcpServers": { "upcoach": { "url": "https://<your-workspace>.upcoach.com/s/mcp/admin" } } } -
Cursor lists upcoach under Customize in the sidebar. When Cursor asks you to sign in, continue with OAuth. A browser window will open showing the upcoach authorization page. Click Authorize to grant access to your organization
-
Cursor uses the upcoach tools in your conversations whenever they’re relevant
Authorization and security
When you first connect any AI tool, you’ll be asked to authorize it through a secure OAuth flow. The AI tool never sees your upcoach password — it receives a token that grants access only to the tools listed below, acting as you in your organization. The authorization page names the workspace you’re connecting and what the AI tool will be able to do there, including what reaches other people as you: invitations, posts, channel messages and event notifications. You authorize once per tool.
The access stays in place for up to a year. Most AI tools renew it on their own while you keep using them, so you rarely need to authorize again. If a tool asks you to sign in again, connect it the same way you did the first time.
Disconnect an AI tool
- Click your avatar and select Your Profile
- Open the Account tab
- Scroll to Connected apps
- Click Disconnect next to the AI tool, then click Disconnect again to confirm
The AI tool loses access at once. To use it with upcoach again, connect it again.
What the AI tool can’t do
The AI tool can’t:
- publish, rename or delete a program
- work with offers, payments or checkout
- upload files (it can use files already uploaded in upcoach)
- read your feed, channel messages or direct messages
- create or edit groups
- set check-in schedules, reminders or due dates
- change workspace settings, billing or branding
Do these in upcoach itself. The AI tool knows these limits, so you can ask it what it can and can’t do.
