1. Check UKSI-observed GOV.UK changes

For questions such as "What wording changed on this HMRC page since it was first monitored?", start with the free, read-only change brief. It automatically selects one of the nine fixed pages with a genuinely retained, comparable wording change if available; otherwise it shows the SALF1480 baseline. A free response may legitimately have no changes yet. Do not interpret this as proof that the underlying GOV.UK page never changed.

curl -sS 'https://uk-source-intelligence.pages.dev/v1/change-brief'

Read free_example_url to identify the selected public page and changes for retained before-and-after wording, fingerprints and observation dates when available. Read insufficient_history for pages with no comparable versions and inconclusive for records that cannot safely be compared. last_observed_at means a check occurred; it is not the time HMRC edited the page.

Agent tool: connect to our MCP gateway and call get_govuk_change_brief. Without a key it returns the same free one-page scope. With a valid trial or paid key, it covers the nine fixed monitored pages plus URLs watched by that key. Use a private bearer key in client settings; never publish it in prompts or logs.

Choose the right tool: For the current official position, read GOV.UK directly. For UKSI-retained prior wording, use the change brief or authenticated page_history / page_changes. The basic VAT source preview below is for live source/quote inspection, not historical evidence.

Limits: History starts with the first successful UKSI observation. Only selected GOV.UK Content API text is covered; changes between polling intervals can be missed. Comparisons use the latest two distinct retained versions, not a certified event-by-event audit trail. PDF and attachment bodies, legal interpretation and guaranteed detection are not included. A three-day free trial may establish only a baseline if no wording changes during that period. Any paid purchase requires human approval.

Check official GOV.UK VAT source evidence

Open the free live evidence demo. It retrieves an official GOV.UK VAT page, checks example wording and returns a SHA-256 source fingerprint. This is a live source check, not a retrospective change report.

AI agents: Connect to MCP endpoint and call preview_source_evidence without a key. For evidence and monitoring on your own supported GOV.UK page, call start_free_trial: 3 days, 10 requests per UTC day, 1 custom watched page, subject to abuse limits and availability. Paid access is £9 once for 30 days and requires the human operator to approve payment.

Free trial: POST /v1/trial, save the returned API key (shown once). Paid: POST /v1/checkout, complete card payment via Stripe and return to /success for instant activation.

Send Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY with each protected request. Trial: 3 days, 10 calls/day, 1 custom monitored GOV.UK URL. Paid: £9 once for 30 days, 100 calls/day, 3 custom monitored URLs.

Monitor your own GOV.UK page

New: POST /v1/watches attempts an immediate first baseline (or returns pending). Then GET /v1/my-changes?since=0 with your bearer key retrieves a compact digest for your own active watched pages. Save next_cursor, and supply it as since next time. GET never marks events read. Baselines are not change events. Trial-to-paid watch transfer is not automatic. Paid customers can optionally register one HTTPS webhook receiver for signed change notifications; without a receiver, an agent should continue polling the private digest.

curl -X POST 'https://uk-source-intelligence.pages.dev/v1/watches' -H 'Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY' -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{"url":"https://www.gov.uk/vat-rates"}'

Use another supported https://www.gov.uk/... URL to create a custom watch (the example is already part of the fixed watchlist). List watches with GET /v1/watches; remove one with DELETE /v1/watches?url=ENCODED_URL. Check its records with GET /v1/history?url=ENCODED_URL or GET /v1/changes?url=ENCODED_URL.

Optional paid notifications: signed HTTPS webhooks

Paid access (£9 once for 30 days) includes the option to register one HTTPS receiver per key. This is for agent or application developers who operate an endpoint; UKSI does not send ordinary email, browser push, or ChatGPT alerts. The receiver must accept a registration challenge by returning HTTP 200 and JSON containing the identical challenge value.

curl -X POST 'https://uk-source-intelligence.pages.dev/v1/webhook' \
  -H 'Authorization: Bearer YOUR_PAID_API_KEY' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"url":"https://your-receiver.example/uksi"}'

On successful registration UKSI returns a signing_secret once. Keep it private; validate the X-UKSI-Signature and X-UKSI-Timestamp headers using the algorithm documented in the registration response. Events identify their event_id; de-duplicate repeated deliveries. Only changes recorded after registration are eligible. Delivery is best-effort with retries and no guaranteed time. Manage the destination with GET /v1/webhook or DELETE /v1/webhook. Trial keys cannot use webhooks, but can still retrieve their own digest with my_watch_changes.

For setup and response details, consult the current OpenAPI specification. Do not register third-party receivers or purchase access without the human owner's explicit authorisation.

Inspect current guidance

curl -X POST 'https://uk-source-intelligence.pages.dev/v1/inspect' -H 'Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY' -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{"url":"https://www.gov.uk/vat-rates"}'

Limitations: GOV.UK Content API rendered fields only. No PDFs, linked attachments, legal interpretation or general web monitoring. Saved change histories begin when first polled. Customer checks use a fair scheduled queue; 15 minutes is a poll cycle, not a guaranteed per-page interval. Only paid customers authorised for card purchases should start paid checkout; an agent must not purchase without its owner's permission.
