Ask your AI assistant about your state’s ad rules
Our library of lawyer advertising rules for every US state and DC is free to use in your own tools. Connect it to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and ask about your state’s rules in plain words; the answer comes back with the rule’s source and the date we checked it.
Free · No sign-up · Not legal advice
Who is this for?
- Firm owners and marketing staff. Add the connector once and ask your assistant questions like the ones below. It reads our library instead of guessing, and it shows you where each rule comes from.
- Developers and legal-tech builders. Read the same data as plain files, or call the MCP server from your own agent. No key and no account.
- Journalists and researchers. Every rule has a stable link and a one-sentence citation you can quote.
Questions you can ask once it’s connected
- What does a lawyer ad in Texas have to include?
- Which states make lawyers file their ads with the bar?
- Compare the waiting periods for contacting accident victims in Florida, Georgia and Ohio.
- What are New York’s rules on testimonials and past results?
- Has anything changed in the rules this month?
- What have state bars said about paying a lead generator?
- What does Google Ads allow for a bail bond lawyer’s ads?
[!-warn] -warn Not legal advice. The answers summarize public rules and say how each one was checked. They don’t decide whether a particular ad is allowed: the lawyer responsible for the ad, your state bar or your counsel does. Probative is a marketing firm, not a law firm.
Use it in your AI tool
The server address is the same everywhere. There is no sign-in: when an app asks how to authenticate, choose none.
https://probativegrowth.com/mcp
Apps and directories that read server cards find this one at https://probativegrowth.com/mcp/server-card.
One click, if the app is installed: add to VS Code or add to Cursor. The app opens and asks you to confirm.
Claude (the website and the desktop app)
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and add a custom connector. Give it any name, paste the address above, and choose no sign-in. Then ask a question in a new chat. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it for the organization first.
Older versions of Claude Desktop that only read a config file can use this in claude_desktop_config.json (it needs Node.js):
{
"mcpServers": {
"legal-marketing-data": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"mcp-remote",
"https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
]
}
}
}
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http legal-marketing-data https://probativegrowth.com/mcp
ChatGPT
On plans that offer developer mode, turn it on in ChatGPT’s settings, create a connector with the address above, and choose no authentication.
Cursor
Add this to the mcp.json file in Cursor’s settings (or in your project’s .cursor folder):
{
"mcpServers": {
"legal-marketing-data": {
"url": "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
}
}
}
Or, with Cursor installed, use the one-click install link for Cursor.
VS Code with GitHub Copilot
Add this to .vscode/mcp.json in your project:
{
"servers": {
"legal-marketing-data": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
}
}
}
Or, with VS Code installed, use the one-click install link for VS Code, or run this in a terminal:
code --add-mcp '{"name":"legal-marketing-data","type":"http","url":"https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"}'
Windsurf
In the Cascade panel, open the MCP config file and add:
{
"mcpServers": {
"legal-marketing-data": {
"serverUrl": "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
}
}
}
Cline
Add this to cline_mcp_settings.json, or paste the address above in the Remote Servers tab. Keep the type line: without it, Cline uses an older transport this server doesn’t offer.
{
"mcpServers": {
"legal-marketing-data": {
"type": "streamableHttp",
"url": "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
}
}
}
Microsoft Copilot Studio
In your agent, add a tool, choose Model Context Protocol, paste the address above, and set authentication to none.
Gemini CLI
Run this, or add the JSON below to your Gemini CLI settings.json:
gemini mcp add --transport http legal-marketing-data https://probativegrowth.com/mcp
{
"mcpServers": {
"legal-marketing-data": {
"httpUrl": "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
}
}
}
OpenAI Codex
Add this to ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.legal-marketing-data]
url = "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
Kiro
Add this to .kiro/settings/mcp.json in your project (or ~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json for every project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"legal-marketing-data": {
"url": "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
}
}
}
Goose
Start a Goose session with the server:
goose session --with-streamable-http-extension "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
To keep it, run goose configure, choose to add an extension, pick the remote (streamable HTTP) type and paste the address above.
Zed
Add this to Zed’s settings.json:
{
"context_servers": {
"legal-marketing-data": {
"url": "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"
}
}
}
Poke
Run this in a terminal, or add the address above as a new integration in Poke:
npx poke@latest mcp add https://probativegrowth.com/mcp -n "legal-marketing-data"
OpenAI Responses API
Pass the server as a tool in Python (the same tool entry works in any language):
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI()
resp = client.responses.create(
model="gpt-6-astra",
tools=[{
"type": "mcp",
"server_label": "legal-marketing-data",
"server_url": "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp",
"require_approval": "never",
}],
input="¿Qué exige Florida en un anuncio de abogados?",
)
print(resp.output_text)
OpenAI Agents SDK
Connect the server to an agent in Python:
import asyncio
from agents import Agent, Runner
from agents.mcp import MCPServerStreamableHttp
async def main():
async with MCPServerStreamableHttp(
name="legal-marketing-data",
params={"url": "https://probativegrowth.com/mcp"},
) as server:
agent = Agent(
name="Asistente de reglas",
instructions="Responde con el texto de la regla y su fuente.",
mcp_servers=[server],
)
result = await Runner.run(agent, "¿Qué exige Florida en un anuncio de abogados?")
print(result.final_output)
asyncio.run(main())
What the assistant can look up
Each tool only reads our data. None of them can change anything, send anything or see your files.
get_state_rules
Every rule we track for one state or DC.
get_rule
One state’s rule on one topic, with the sentence to cite.
compare_states
One topic side by side across the states you name, or all of them.
search_rules
A plain keyword search, such as “Florida filing fee” or “testimonials in New York”. No AI runs on our side.
list_rule_changes
Confirmed changes to the rules, newest first.
get_ad_filing_requirements
Whether a state bar wants your ads filed, when, the fee and how to file.
get_attorney_fee_caps
Legal limits on lawyer fees: workers’ comp in every state, and Social Security, FTCA and VA fees.
list_mdl_dockets
Federal mass-tort dockets, largest first, with the change over the past year. Ask for one docket to get its monthly history.
search_ethics_opinions
Bar ethics opinions on lawyer marketing, such as paying for leads, online reviews or trade names, by state or topic.
get_ad_platform_policies
The ad policies of Google, Microsoft, Meta, LinkedIn, YouTube and ChatGPT that touch law-firm ads, quoted with the day we read them.
get_spanish_demand_supply
Spanish speakers with limited English for each Spanish-speaking lawyer, in a state or a metro area.
get_ca_court_filings
Cases filed in each California county’s superior court, by case type, with the year before.
check_ad_elements
Which of a state’s ad rules your ad touches: name what it contains (testimonials, results, “expert” claims, Spanish and more) or paste the copy, and get each rule with its source and the state’s filing rule. It points to rules to read, never to a verdict.
calculate_fee_cap
The most a lawyer may charge on one award under a fee limit we track, such as Social Security, FTCA, VA or a workers’ comp scale, with the formula and where it comes from.
get_state_market_brief
One state’s market in one call: law offices, legal deserts, Spanish-speaking demand, ad filing, referral-fee rules, the injury deadline and new lawyers, each with its source.
get_benchmark
The law-firm marketing benchmarks from our data, as bands and tiers, with the methods page to cite.
data_lookup
One state, platform, metro or court docket in any of our datasets, by its dataset name.
data_compare
The same, side by side for up to 10.
data_search
A plain keyword search across those datasets, such as “Google Ads bail bonds” or “lead generator opinion”.
list_datasets
What data the server holds, with the version and DOI of each set.
cite
The citation and credit line for the whole dataset, a state or one rule.
whats_new
What changed recently, across every dataset.
search
Finds records across every dataset by keyword and returns their ids, for ChatGPT deep research and other apps that expect search and fetch.
fetch
The full text of one record found with search, with its source, the day we checked it and the citation.
The topics are: ad filing or review, what each ad must include, waiting period for targeted injury contact, results, testimonials and “specialist” claims, referral services and lead generators, ads in Spanish and other languages, call-recording consent, texting and telemarketing law and privacy and health-data law. Every answer carries the rule text, the primary source we read, the sources with the dates we read them and, in full detail, the words quoted from each official source (from version 1.3.0), and a link to the rule on its state page.
Every answer also carries a provenance note: who first published the information (the state bar, court, agency or ad platform) and its link, the day we last checked it, the dataset and version with its DOI, the record’s id and the time the answer was sent. Answers are short by default: each record comes with its id, a sentence or two, its status, the day we checked it, one source link and the page to cite, and long lists come back a few at a time. Ask for full detail (response_format: "detailed"; the older detail: "full" still works) to get every field, every source and the provenance note on each record.
There are also ready-made prompts for apps that show them: “Check an ad against a state’s advertising rules”, a bar ad filing checklist, a digest of recent rule changes, a brief on one mass-tort docket and a Spanish-language market brief. The first loads your state’s rules and asks the assistant to point out which ones your ad touches, as questions for your lawyer, never as a verdict. Apps that suggest values as you type get state, topic, docket and area names from the server.
More servers, one for each dataset
The server above keeps the core tools. Each dataset also has its own server, with only that dataset’s tools (plus list_datasets, cite and whats_new), so an assistant can connect to just the one it needs. They work the same way: no sign-in, read-only, and the same connect steps as above with the server’s own address. The list is also the probative://servers resource on the main server, and every dataset in the catalog carries its server address as mcp.

Credit and license
You can reuse, adapt and republish the data, including commercially, under the Creative Commons Attribution license. The one condition is credit with a link. Paste this line under any chart, table or article that uses it:

To cite a single rule, use the “Cite this” line under that rule on its state page, or ask the assistant to cite it. The dataset’s permanent record is on Zenodo: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23750572.
What we keep when you use it
Nothing that identifies you or your firm. We count how many times each tool is used per day, and which kind of app called it, such as Claude or Cursor. We don’t store your questions, the text of your ads, your IP address or any account details. There is no sign-up, so there are no accounts to keep.
To keep the server fast for everyone, very heavy use from one connection is slowed for a minute at a time. The plain files above have no such limit.
Your AI app sends us only the tool name and the words it fills in, such as a state or a search phrase. We use them to answer and then discard them. The server runs on Cloudflare, which carries the traffic. The daily counts are kept for as long as they are useful to us and hold nothing about you. Our full privacy notice covers the rest of the website.
