Whiteboard animation in Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor

Canonical: https://whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp Updated: 2026-10-29

Connect the Whiteboard Animation MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client, sign in once, and turn a finished picture into a whiteboard animation without leaving the chat. No API key.

Connect it once, then ask your assistant to draw any finished picture as a whiteboard animation. It plays in the chat, and you get a link that saves the MP4.

MCP server: https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp (streamable HTTP, OAuth). Plugins for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI, and the registry entry, are on GitHub. celados/whiteboard-animation-mcp

Three steps, then just ask

  1. Connect it: From ChatGPT’s Plugins page or with one click in Claude. In Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, paste the setup prompt and the agent adds the server itself.
  2. Sign in once: With your WhiteboardAnimation.ai account, over OAuth. Nothing to copy, and you can disconnect it any time.
  3. Hand it a picture: Your assistant draws it stroke by stroke, shows the drawing in the chat, and gives you a link that saves the video.

Let your agent set it up

Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any agent that can edit its own MCP settings. It adds the server, signs you in and checks your credits. No API key. New accounts start with free credits.

Add the Whiteboard Animation MCP server to my MCP settings: streamable HTTP at https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp, sign-in with OAuth (no API key). Then help me sign in, and once it is connected, call its status tool and tell me how many credits I have.

Or add it by hand

ChatGPT

  1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT on the web; the button copies the address on the way (https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp).
  2. Choose + → Add custom MCP server, name it Whiteboard Animation, paste the address and choose OAuth.
  3. Tick the risk notice, choose Create as a plugin and sign in with your WhiteboardAnimation.ai account.
  4. In a chat, attach a picture and ask for a whiteboard animation: the drawing shows in the chat.

Add to ChatGPT

Claude

  1. In Claude (web or desktop), open Customize → Connectors and add a custom connector named Whiteboard Animation with https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp, or let the button fill it in.
  2. Choose Connect and sign in with your WhiteboardAnimation.ai account.
  3. Give Claude the link to a finished picture and ask for a whiteboard animation.

Add to Claude

Claude Code

  1. Add the server from your terminal.
  2. Inside a session, run /mcp, choose whiteboard-animation and sign in.
  3. Point Claude at a picture or a folder of them.
claude mcp add --transport http whiteboard-animation https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp

Cursor

  1. Add the server with the button, or put this in ~/.cursor/mcp.json.
  2. Sign in when Cursor asks, from Settings → MCP.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "whiteboard-animation": {
      "url": "https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Add to Cursor

VS Code

  1. Add the server with the button or from your terminal, or with MCP: Add Server in the command palette (HTTP).
  2. Start it from the MCP servers list and sign in when asked.
code --add-mcp '{"name":"whiteboard-animation","type":"http","url":"https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp"}'

Add to VS Code

Codex

  1. Add the server, then sign in from your terminal.
  2. Ask Codex to draw the pictures in a folder.
codex mcp add whiteboard-animation --url https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp
codex mcp login whiteboard-animation

Other clients

  1. Any client that speaks streamable HTTP and OAuth connects with https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp: no API key, no package to install.
  2. Sign-in uses dynamic client registration, so the client registers itself.

Common questions

Is there a whiteboard animation MCP server?

Yes. WhiteboardAnimation.ai runs a remote MCP server at https://mcp.whiteboardanimation.ai/mcp: add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Codex or any MCP client, sign in, and your assistant can turn your pictures into whiteboard animations.

Do I need an API key?

No. You sign in once with your WhiteboardAnimation.ai account (OAuth), and the client keeps you signed in. Disconnect the connector in your client to stop it.

Can it make a picture from a text prompt?

No. Bring a finished picture: make it first with an image tool, in the same chat if you like, then ask for the whiteboard animation.

Does it give me a video file?

It gives you a link: opened in any browser, the page draws the MP4 or WebM and saves it to your downloads. A coding agent can open it for you and move the files where you want them.

What can my assistant do with it?

Draw a finished PNG, JPEG or WebP as a whiteboard animation (subject or background first, with the hand you choose), show the drawing in the chat in clients that support MCP apps such as Claude and ChatGPT, give one link that saves several drawings as MP4 or WebM, and tell you what a drawing costs, the credits you have left and your latest drawings.

What does a drawing cost?

The same as in Studio: one credit per picture, from your account. A failed drawing gives its credit back, and new accounts start with free credits.
