Setting it up

Try Truo free for 7 days. $14.95 a month or $149 a year after your 7-day free trial. Cancel any time before it ends and you won't be charged. A card is added when you start. The full conditions are in the terms.

  1. Create your account. We email you a sign-in code and a link. You sign in with the code, and your bank password stays with your bank.
  2. Connect a bank. You go to openfeed and then to your own bank, where you approve exactly what is shared. Your internet banking password never reaches Truo or the AI.
  3. Start your subscription on the Subscription page. The first 7 days are free, and a card is added when you start. Until it has started, your assistant can connect, but Truo answers its questions with an error.
  4. Add Truo to your assistant at https://connect.truo.com.au/mcp. The exact clicks are at /connect-claude and /connect-chatgpt. In ChatGPT, switch on Developer mode first. It is off by default.
  5. Allow it to read your data. Press Allow it to read my data on the Apps page of your Truo account, at app.truo.com.au/apps. Approving in your assistant is not enough on its own. It lets the app sign in as you, and seeing your accounts and transactions is a second decision. Until you press it, your assistant connects and finds nothing, and Truo looks empty.

app.truo.com.au/welcome walks the five steps and shows which ones you have finished. Truo starts pulling your history as soon as you connect a bank. After that it updates once a day, early in the morning, while your subscription is live.

What Truo is

Truo connects your Australian bank accounts to Claude or ChatGPT so you can ask about your own money in ordinary language. Ask what you spent on groceries last quarter or which subscriptions renew this month. You can also ask what a particular payment was.

Truo is read-only against your bank. It cannot move money or make a payment, and it cannot open or close an account. There is no write path to the bank anywhere in the system, and the Consumer Data Right does not provide one.

It works with Claude and ChatGPT. Anything else that speaks the Model Context Protocol over streamable HTTP with OAuth will work too, at the same address.

Asking out loud, and the charts your assistant draws

You can ask out loud. Both assistants have a voice mode, and Truo has no way of knowing whether a question was typed or spoken. Asking on the drive to work works the same as asking at a desk.

Ask for a chart and your assistant draws one in the chat from your own figures, such as cash by account, this month against last by category, a twelve-month spend trend, or savings rate month by month. Drawing the picture is the assistant's work. The figures underneath are the rows your bank supplied.

Where your data is held

Your bank data is stored in Australia. The privacy policy names every provider that handles it. Descriptions, merchant names and reference numbers are encrypted under a key for your account alone.

How the data reaches Truo

Your data reaches Truo over the Consumer Data Right, which is Australia's open banking scheme. openfeed is accredited to receive it from your bank (ADR000204), and openfeed discloses it onward to Truo with your consent. Truo is not accredited and does not describe itself as such. From the point the data reaches Truo it is governed by the Privacy Act rather than the CDR's privacy safeguards.

Deleting your Truo account and ending your arrangement with openfeed are two separate acts. Deleting Truo does not end the openfeed arrangement. You withdraw that in openfeed's own dashboard.

Keeping and deleting your data

If your subscription ends, including when a payment fails or you cancel during your trial, your bank data and bank connections are deleted 30 days after the end of that month. Your login stays, so you can come back and connect your bank again. Delete your account and it is permanently deleted within seven days. You can export everything we hold at any time.

How far back it goes, and what each way of leaving does

Your history reaches back as far as your bank supplies on the day you connect. Everything from that day onwards is kept and builds up while your subscription is active.

Withdraw consent and new data stops flowing. Deleting your account removes your stored data, apart from the limited records the law requires us to keep and a reason for leaving if you pick one.

How authorisation works

Your assistant signs in with OAuth and gets a token of its own. It never receives a Truo password. Every read an assistant makes is recorded, and you can read that log yourself at app.truo.com.au/activity.

The OAuth flow, and the list that decides what an app can read

OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration.

Allowing an app to read puts it on a list, and row level security checks that list on every query. An app that is not on it gets no rows. Withdrawing stops it reading your banking data straight away, and ends its sign-in within half an hour.

The tools

Twenty tools. Thirteen read, three make a file of your history for you to download, two change how your money is grouped inside Truo, and two save and correct the loans you tell Truo about. None of them touches your bank.

All twenty, by name

Read (13)

  • Account summary (account_summary)
  • Spending by category (spending_by_category)
  • Monthly trend (monthly_trend)
  • Recurring payments and upcoming bills (recurring_and_upcoming)
  • Top merchants (top_merchants)
  • Income and savings (income_and_savings)
  • List transactions (list_transactions)
  • Get one transaction (get_transaction)
  • Find a merchant (find_merchant)
  • Chart of accounts (chart_of_accounts)
  • Income and expenditure statement (income_and_expenditure)
  • Balance sheet (balance_sheet)
  • Loans you told Truo about (loan_summary)

Make a download file (3)

  • Export transactions to CSV (export_transactions_csv)
  • Export transactions to Excel (export_transactions_xlsx)
  • Export statements to Excel (export_statements_xlsx)

Write, to Truo's chart and your loans (4)

  • Rename a chart account (rename_chart_account). Changes the label you see in statements. The code and what rolls up to it are unchanged.
  • Move a category to a different code (remap_category). Every category belongs to exactly one code, and this moves it. It does not copy it.
  • Save a loan from a statement (save_loan_statement). Saves the figures your assistant read from a statement you gave it. Your assistant is asked to show you each figure and wait for your yes first.
  • Correct a loan detail (correct_loan_detail). Fixes a figure. The old value is kept in the loan's history.

The two chart tools edit Truo's own chart of accounts, which decides how your spending is grouped in the statements Truo produces afterwards, and each can put back its own change. The two loan tools change only the loans you told Truo about. A loan or a statement is deleted by you, on your Account and loan pages, never by an assistant.

Good to know

Renewing a connection, daily updates, money moved, and what Truo does not do

A bank connection needs renewing every 12 months.

Your feed stops at some point and you reconnect from Truo's connections page, which opens openfeed's screen. If openfeed refuses the credential Truo holds for your bank, app.truo.com.au/connections says so after the next daily update and puts the button that starts the reconnection on the page.

Truo answers from stored history rather than a live call to your bank. A connection is refreshed daily while it holds live access, and one whose access has lapsed is not.

Figures cover the accounts you have connected. A transfer to an account you have not connected is set aside as money moved and counted as neither saving nor spending.

Truo is not a financial adviser and holds no Australian Financial Services licence. It reports what your bank supplied. It does not recommend products and it does not tell you what to do with your money.

Truo does not train models on your data and does not sell data.

For platform reviewers

Ask hello@truo.com.au for an account on Truo's synthetic household. It is the same household Truo's test suite and scored evaluation run against, and the whole tool surface can be exercised on it without a real bank account.

What an exchange looks like

You: what did I spend on groceries last quarter?
Truo: $2,417.30 across 63 transactions, 1 April to 30 June 2026.
