ProofSnap

Capture any public web page as court-ready evidence from Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Mistral Vibe, GitHub Copilot or any MCP app. Each capture is a signed, timestamped evidence package (screenshot, HTML, page text, metadata, chain of custody, OpenTimestamps proof, optional eIDAS qualified timestamp). The assistant can also verify packages, compare two captures and watch pages for changes. Remote server with OAuth; free sandbox with 50 watermarked test captures.

How to use the ProofSnap MCP server: example prompts

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools outside the chat. To use the ProofSnap MCP server, connect it once and then ask your assistant in plain language; it picks the right tool from up to 19. Which tools it sees depends on your plan and on what you allowed when you connected. Each card below shows a task with example prompts you can copy:

Preserve a page as evidence

ProofSnap’s servers capture one page, or up to 10 at once, and seal each as a signed evidence package. The package holds a full-page screenshot, the HTML, the page text, metadata, a chain-of-custody record and an OpenTimestamps (Bitcoin) proof, with an optional eIDAS qualified timestamp. A capture is usually ready in 30 to 90 seconds.

Try asking

Capture https://example.com as evidence.

Capture https://example.com and https://example.org.

Get and verify captures

The assistant lists and opens your captures and checks a stored package: the manifest signature, every file against its SHA-256 hash, the timestamps and whether ProofSnap issued it.

Try asking

List my last 5 captures.

Verify my latest capture.

Find and open captures

The assistant finds your captures by page address or host name and opens one by its ID.

Try asking

Find my captures of example.com.

What happened on my account today?

Quote the sealed page text

The assistant reads or searches the page text sealed in a capture and checks its SHA-256 hash against the signed manifest, so every quote can be traced back to the evidence.

Try asking

What does the captured page say about pricing? Quote the exact text.

Compare two captures

ProofSnap compares two captures of the same page for changes in text, images and page metadata, and seals the result as its own evidence package.

Try asking

Compare my last two captures of https://example.com.

Watch pages for changes

A schedule captures a page at a fixed interval, on a cron schedule or whenever the page changes. In on-change mode, ProofSnap sends an email to your confirmed address when it detects a change, and you can ask the assistant what changed at any time.

Try asking

Watch https://example.com and let me know when it changes.

Pause the schedule for example.com.

Organize matters (Legal plans)

The assistant lists matters, creates one, adds captures to it and exports the whole matter as one ZIP. Each addition is recorded in the matter’s chain of custody.

Try asking

Create a matter “Case 2026-14” and add my latest capture to it.

Certify a hash

The SHA-256 hash of a file is sealed with an OpenTimestamps proof. Only the hash is sent; ProofSnap never receives the file itself.

Try asking

Certify this SHA-256 hash: <hash of your file>

Before adding an eIDAS timestamp or capturing more than 5 pages at once, the assistant tells you the cost and asks for your confirmation.

The 19 tools of the ProofSnap MCP server: whoami, capture_web_page, get_capture, get_capture_text, list_captures, verify_capture, compare_captures, certify_hash, lookup_manifest, list_schedules, create_schedule, set_schedule_status, list_matters, create_matter, add_captures_to_matter, export_matter, list_events, search and fetch.

In clients that support the MCP Apps extension, a capture appears as a card with a page preview that refreshes while the capture is still running. Other clients show the same result as text.

Who the ProofSnap MCP server is for

The ProofSnap MCP server is built for lawyers, journalists and compliance teams who need to preserve web pages as evidence without leaving the chat.

Lawyers and law firms

Ask the assistant to capture the opposing party’s web page, add the capture to a matter and export the matter with its exhibit index and chain of custody report when you file. Matters are part of the Legal plans.

Example: “Capture https://example.com, add it to the matter ‘Case 2026-14’ and export the matter.”

Journalists and researchers

Capture a page before and after it changes, then ask the assistant to compare the two captures. The comparison is sealed as an evidence package of its own, so the difference can still be shown later.

Example: “Compare my last two captures of https://example.com.”

Compliance and brand protection

Let the assistant watch a page on a schedule. Every check that finds a change makes a new capture, listed in your account events and, if you want, sent to you by email.

Example: “Watch https://example.com every day and tell me when it changes.”

Connect in three steps

Most AI apps that support remote MCP servers connect to ProofSnap the same way:

  1. Copy the server address: https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp
  2. Add it to your AI app as a custom connector, app or MCP server, following the steps for your app on this page.
  3. Sign in and choose what the app may do. A browser window opens to the ProofSnap sign-in page. Sign in with your ProofSnap account, choose Read only or Read and create, and click Allow.

You need a ProofSnap account with a confirmed email address. If you do not have one yet, create one in the dashboard; the guide to getting started with the dashboard shows each screen.

To check that the connection works, ask your assistant: “Which ProofSnap account are you connected to?” It answers with your account, your plan and whether captures are test or live.

ProofSnap MCP server addresses

Server

https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp, for everything you do with your own account.

Transport

Streamable HTTP.

Sign-in

OAuth with your ProofSnap account in the browser, or an API key in the header Authorization: Bearer ps_live_... for apps without OAuth.

Verify server

https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/verify/mcp, public, no sign-in, one tool: lookup_manifest.

Steps for each AI app: Claude connectors, ChatGPT apps and more

Pick your app. Menu names can differ slightly between versions; what matters is that you add a custom connector or MCP server with the ProofSnap address.

Claude custom connector (web, desktop and mobile)

In Claude, a remote MCP server such as ProofSnap is added as a custom connector:

  1. In Claude, open Settings > Connectors (in newer versions Customize > Connectors) and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Enter ProofSnap as the name, paste https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp as the URL and add it.
  3. Click Connect and sign in with your ProofSnap account.

Custom connectors work on every Claude plan; on the Free plan you can add one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector once in the organization settings, and each member then connects their own ProofSnap account. If you do not see Add custom connector, ask an owner of your Team or Enterprise organization to add ProofSnap, or, on the Free plan, check whether your one custom connector is already in use. Anthropic describes the details in its guide to custom connectors.

ChatGPT MCP connector

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings > Apps & Connectors.
  2. Add a custom app or connector (on some plans this needs developer mode, under Advanced settings) and paste https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp as the server URL, with OAuth as the authentication method.
  3. Sign in with your ProofSnap account when ChatGPT asks.

If ChatGPT says the connection has expired: this usually means you connected with Read only and then asked for a capture. Click Reconnect, sign in to ProofSnap and choose Read and create.

If the card shows a “CSP off” badge: ChatGPT shows it while its setting Enforce CSP for custom apps (Settings > Security and login > App security) is off. The ProofSnap card works with the setting on.

Claude Code MCP setup

Run this in your terminal, then type /mcp in Claude Code and choose proofsnap to sign in:

claude mcp add --transport http proofsnap https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp

Codex CLI MCP setup

Add the server, then sign in:

codex mcp add proofsnap --url https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp
codex mcp login proofsnap

Gemini CLI

Add the server, then run /mcp auth proofsnap inside Gemini CLI to sign in:

gemini mcp add --transport http proofsnap https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp

Gemini MCP support for your own servers is in Gemini CLI. The Gemini app in the browser does not let you add a custom MCP server (October 2026).

VS Code and GitHub Copilot MCP setup

Install with one click, confirm in VS Code, then sign in when GitHub Copilot first uses the server:

Install in VS Code Install in VS Code Insiders

Or add it to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace:

{
  "servers": {
    "proofsnap": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Windsurf and Devin

Add the server to mcp_config.json: for Devin Desktop, ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json; for older Windsurf versions, ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json. Note that the key is serverUrl, not url:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "proofsnap": {
      "serverUrl": "https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Zed

Add the server to your Zed settings.json:

{
  "context_servers": {
    "proofsnap": {
      "url": "https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Cline

Open the MCP server settings in Cline, edit cline_mcp_settings.json and add:

{
  "mcpServers": {

      "type": "streamableHttp",
      "url": "https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Roo Code

Roo Code connects with an API key instead of OAuth. Add this to its MCP settings and put your own key in place of ps_live_...:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "proofsnap": {
      "type": "streamable-http",
      "url": "https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ps_live_..."
      }
    }
  }
}

Goose

Add a remote extension (Streamable HTTP) with goose configure, or add it to ~/.config/goose/config.yaml:

extensions:
  proofsnap:
    name: proofsnap
    type: streamable_http
    uri: https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp
    enabled: true
    timeout: 300

Amp

Add the server from the terminal. Amp opens the ProofSnap sign-in page the next time it starts:

amp mcp add proofsnap https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp

Or add it to ~/.config/amp/settings.json:

{
  "amp.mcpServers": {
    "proofsnap": {
      "url": "https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

JetBrains Junie

Add the server to .junie/mcp/mcp.json in your project:

{
  "mcpServers": {

n8n (MCP Client Tool)

n8n (version 1.104.0 or later) connects with an API key:

  1. Add the MCP Client Tool node to an AI Agent in your workflow, or the MCP Client node to run a single ProofSnap tool as a workflow step.
  2. Enter https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp as the endpoint and choose HTTP Streamable as the server transport.
  3. Choose Bearer Auth authentication and create a credential with your ProofSnap API key as the token (see Connect with an API key).

Apps that support only local (stdio) servers

The ProofSnap MCP server is a remote server: it runs at an internet address, and apps reach it over Streamable HTTP. A local (stdio) server runs as a program on your own computer. Use the mcp-remote bridge, which opens the ProofSnap sign-in page in your browser and relays the connection to your app:

npx mcp-remote https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp

In a JSON configuration file it looks like this:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "proofsnap": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["mcp-remote", "https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp"]
    }
  }
}

Read only or Read and create

When you connect, the ProofSnap consent page asks what the AI app may do with your account. You choose one of two modes:

Read only

The app can list and open your account’s captures, download their evidence packages and verify them. It cannot create anything.

Read and create

The app can also create captures, comparisons, certifications, automated captures and matters. Captures count toward your plan’s allowance.

Accounts on the Website Archive and Archive only plans can connect only with Read only access. If you connected with Read only and later ask your assistant for a capture, the app may ask you to sign in again and allow Read and create. How ProofSnap stores and protects your evidence is described on the security page.

“The app can never delete anything, change billing or API keys, or see your password.”

From the ProofSnap consent page for connecting an AI app

Connect with an API key instead of OAuth

Some apps and automation tools cannot sign in with OAuth. They connect to the same address with a ProofSnap API key in a request header. Create the key in the dashboard under API keys and add this header to the server configuration of your app:

Authorization: Bearer ps_live_...

The app then works with the permissions of that key. Keep the key in the app’s configuration only, and revoke it in the dashboard when you no longer use it.

The Verify server (no sign-in needed)

The ProofSnap Verify server at https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/verify/mcp is public and needs no account. It has one tool, lookup_manifest, which looks up the SHA-256 hash of an evidence package’s manifest.json in ProofSnap’s public ledger and answers whether ProofSnap issued exactly this manifest, and when.

Add it the same way as the main server, without signing in. It is meant for anyone who receives a ProofSnap package, such as opposing counsel or a court-appointed expert. To check the package files themselves, see how to verify an evidence package. To check a package in your browser, open the ProofSnap Trust Verifier.

Questions and answers

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard, introduced by Anthropic in November 2024, that lets an AI assistant use tools outside the chat. An MCP server offers the tools and the AI app connects to it as a client. The ProofSnap MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, n8n and other apps up to 19 tools for preserving web pages as signed evidence.

What is an MCP server?

An MCP server offers tools to AI apps through the Model Context Protocol. A remote MCP server, such as ProofSnap’s, runs at an internet address and the app signs in to it with OAuth, so nothing is installed on your computer. A local MCP server runs as a program on your own machine.

Is a capture made through an AI assistant billed?

A live capture counts as one capture toward your plan’s allowance, exactly like a capture started in the dashboard. eIDAS timestamps, and any captures beyond your allowance, are billed at your plan’s rates. Without a plan, you can make up to 50 watermarked test captures, which are not billed.

What is the difference between Read only and Read and create?

Read only lets the AI app list and open your captures, download their evidence packages and verify them. Read and create also lets it start captures, comparisons, certifications, automated captures and matters. If you connected with Read only and later ask for a capture, your app may ask you to sign in again and allow Read and create.

Which ProofSnap plans include the MCP server?

Every ProofSnap API account can connect, including the free sandbox with its 50 watermarked test captures. Website Archive and Archive only accounts connect with Read only access, schedules are not available in the sandbox, and matters are available on the Legal plans. See API pricing for the plans and their rates.

What data can Claude or ChatGPT access through the ProofSnap connector?

Only your own ProofSnap account, within the mode you allowed: your captures and their evidence packages, comparisons, certifications, automated captures, account events and, on the Legal plans, matters. The connector cannot see your password, billing or API keys, cannot delete anything, and does not reach your other apps or files. How ProofSnap protects your data is described on the security page.

Where do I download the evidence package?

When a capture finishes, the AI app receives the evidence package as a file link, valid for 15 minutes. Ask the assistant for a download link at any time, or download the package in your ProofSnap dashboard. A download link works without signing in, so share it only with people who should receive the package.

How do I disconnect an AI app?

Open the ProofSnap dashboard and go to Connected AI apps. Disconnecting ends the app’s access immediately.

What can the AI app never do?

The app can never delete anything, change billing or API keys, or see your password.

Which address do I use, /mcp or /verify/mcp?

Use https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp to work with your own account. Use https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/verify/mcp, which needs no sign-in, when all you need is to check whether ProofSnap issued a given evidence package.

What if my AI app does not connect?

Check that the address is exactly https://mcp.getproofsnap.com/mcp and that the app uses Streamable HTTP, not SSE. Confirm your ProofSnap email address first, because the consent page requires a confirmed address. If the app cannot sign in with OAuth, connect with an API key in the header. If it still fails, email support@getproofsnap.com.

Do I need developer mode in ChatGPT?

Only on some ChatGPT plans. If ChatGPT does not let you add a custom app, turn on developer mode under Advanced settings in Settings > Apps & Connectors, then add the ProofSnap address. What to do if the card shows a “CSP off” badge is in the ChatGPT steps.

Can a capture made from ChatGPT or Claude be used as evidence?

Yes. ProofSnap’s own servers load the page, not the AI app, and seal it into the same signed evidence package as a capture made in the dashboard: screenshot, page source, hashes, chain of custody, an OpenTimestamps proof and, if you ask for it, an eIDAS qualified timestamp. Anyone can verify the package independently with the files it contains.

Can a company owner turn off AI apps for the team?

Yes. The owner of a company account can turn off AI app access for all members in the ProofSnap dashboard. Existing connections then stop working until it is turned on again.
